The Doors were wonderful in their ability to successfully combine rock, blues, jazz, folk and poetry into their music. Jim Morrison’s voice was beautiful and haunting.

The fact that he’s singing the word “higher” during this performance was the reason Ed Sullivan never invited him back. He was kindly asked to change the word 😅

My opinion is tainted by experience. I saw The Doors in Miami 1969 at THAT infamous 'concert' if you can call it that. Morrison was shit faced drunk, either slurred/forgot lyrics, stopped songs in mid performance to cuss at the audience... THE WORST concert I ever saw.

Ray Manzarek's keyboard, Robby Krieger's guitar, & John Densmore's drums brought together classical, jazz, blues, & even flamenco influences, creating a distinct sound without a bass player. Layer Morrison's dark, erotic poetry on top of this, and you've got something special.

Nor the music so much, but I really enjoyed reading "No One Here Gets Out Alive"

Jim's father, Admiral Morrison, was instrumental in the Gulf of Tonkin false flag incident that was used to justify our involvement in Vietnam. 58,000 Americans wasted on a psy-op. Was Jim killed for knowing the truth or did he OD trying to to cope with it?

Britain had Zeppelin, America had the Doors. Nobody else has come close since to furthering the blues into the unknown than these two bands.

I spent about 15 minutes with Jim Morrison alone before he went on stage at the Chicago Stadium in 1968.

Love The Doors. Great catalog for a short career. Morrison's voice - so rich. And his lyrics. Ray was a genius on keys. Light My Fire has always been a favorite song.

Yes. Way ahead of their time, and JM was a great frontman.

American does not produce bands like the Doors anymore. Densmore, Manzarek, Krieger were masterful musicians and Jim was a comet that burned out too quickly.

Still love their music; have done since the 60s. Three great musicians and a brilliant vocalist. Don't know how they did it without a bass player though!
