Great aircraft terrible band.

U2

Memories of my burnt crotch at the Beale AFB U-2 line. Hot black paint in 100 degrees under my crotch, as I sit on the nose in front of the cockpit, changing out the 20+ screws on the Electronic Warfare tape recorder panel cover. It all starts with a sergeants command: ‘“Assume the position airman”

Alone at the edge of space - riding the Dragon Lady on that fine line between blowing the wings off and falling from the sky like a rock.

The Dragon Lady 😎🇺🇸

U-2 Knew soon as the dude got out the van in his space suit.

That is a U2. Those birds were part of my unit the 9th SRW out of Beale AFB. Our other bird was the legendary SR-71. Former 42652 here 🫡

Looks very similar, even the yellow Suit 🤣

😅

U2. Not as nice as my favorite SR71, but I will still accept one as a gift.

I looked in my "Observers Book of Aircraft" and I still haven't found what I'm looking for.

U2

Yes that's the Mythbusters reconnaissance plane also known as U2...

I still remember Francis Gary Powers

Worked it for 11 years. 1980 - 1991.

U 2

Utapao AFB, Thailand, watched them leave and return. Did you know they had a chase vehicle that put a wheel on the wing as it landed?

U2 - I saw one land once in at Miramar while I was golfing the base course. Golf course right ne t to runway, so very cool!!!😎

Kelly Johnson's U2 spy plane built by the Lockheed Skunk Works. If memory is correct Fancis Gary Powers was shot down over Russia while on a recon mission. Before that it flew too high to shoot down. It did a good job and helped protect the Free world even later when it flew with NASA.

U-2 spy plane. I still have a poster of the SR-71 blackbird. I heard that the metal expanded so much while flying, that it leaked fuel sitting on the ground. Had to fill in the air. Anyone know if this is true?

I pumped fuel into them several times during my year in South Korea.

Lockeed U2 , the Dragon Lady

SR71, without even seeing the plane

U-2. I grew up on the east coast of Florida in the 60s and 70s. They used to fly slowly up the beach at low altitude on their way back to Patrick Air Force Base. You knew they were coming from the distinct engine sound. We figured they were flying reconnaissance over Cuba.

I bought a hangar a couple years back from a retired old U2 pilot. One of the coolest guys I’ve ever met.

Maintenance troops rockin their disco belts even during daylight hours! Been there

This airplane is the U2 high altitude reconnaissance plane.

Dang. A U-2. Didn’t even know they were still flying

We called them "dragon lady"

Didn’t even have to see the aircraft to know it’s a U-2.

I painted and applied dry lube to various parts of it.

I used to watch them take off when I was working at Moffet field The U2

Don't know, but it was named after a group that had a front man named Bono...

Piper Cub.

Francis, Gary Powers and the U2

U-2 easy. Second I saw the pressure suit I knew it had to be one of 3 planes. SR-71, U-2, or WB-57. And the dragon lady has a pretty distinct nose.
