Listen; I'm not one to preach, but I will tell you a childhood memory and the emotional impact it left regarding this particular topic. I grew up in a home with the detached garage. Id have nightly talks with my father in there. To this day, I can still smell the pine in the air, and the gasoline fumes that would omit through the ventilation crack at the bottom of the garage door. Id get closer to the knob and would be wafted in the face with a smell, that at the time, was lead to believe was a family of skunks that lived underneath the fishing boat alongside the structure. I'd enter and Cat Steven's: Tea for the Tiller-man would be howling about Sad Lisa, Wild World, or Where do the Children Play? I'd run my hand over the shop towel collecting greese as it lay atop the vice, and I'd watch my dad disassemble and fix more automotive parts than I can count. Sometimes for hours, sometimes only minutes. I'd ask him to tell me how the inertia of centrifugal force would keep a body in an amusement park at @WaltDisneyWorld or wander down his vault of memories, and refer to the days when seminary school once lead his focus, and how the Theatokis could perhaps be more than just biblical context that lay barren beneath years of forbidden knowledge. Oracalrs, elders, true prophets... the list could go on forever. To my fathers unrecognized patented inventions, and untapped potential that I believe rides alongside that of genius: I embraced every moment I had with my dad when I would sit on that wooden stool and listen to what I believed to be the wonders of the universe. I post this childhood story here to remember the beautiful memories that a family legacy can leave behind through the exchange of elder to child. Just because a familiar "scent" falls into the category of socially unacceptable, you can differentiate the two and take away where the importance of where the old story remains, and the pieces to gather up and carry on with you. So; regardless of the smell omitting into the nighttime sky was a family of skunks, or marijuana, it didn't matter. And if the sound of someone cracking open a cold Old Style puts a smile on your face, let it fucking shine. Remember the stories and the memories. Stop holding on to the minor details that didn't shape the outcome or determine how your own narrative takes place. The background noise, the unfortunate circumstances in which life handed out, you can leave them out of the rest of your story. "Oh Captain, my captain." 📚🏛️⚔️ ::Sex, drugs, and rock and roll:: a cluster fuck that years of reliance has manipulated and manufactured humanity into believing is the underlying distinguishing force that gets to determine the outcome of every story ever written. Not today. Hard stop. My parents were stoners, by the way. In case you didn't pick up what I was putting down. And I didn't learn this well into my late teens. But I'm just saying, give yourself grace.
