Can relate. My mom was stirring oatmeal at her double oven stove when a quake hit. Rural Alaska, a few miles north of Fairbanks, late 60s/early 70s. Might have been the 6.8 Rampart quake that shook the Fairbanks seismic station 29 Oct 1968. Distance would have trimmed its severity back a bit but it still shook the hell out of us. Serious shaker broke the stove away from the wall anchor. My little sisters screamed in terror because the tremors threw them off their beds and onto the floor. Mom kept her footing during the entire quake, one hand propping up the stove and the other holding the oatmeal away from the stove so our breakfast didn't slosh and burn her. After the shaking stopped, she shoved the dancing oven back into place and finished cooking the oatmeal. Then we ate it for breakfast.
