The first shipment of SA apples arrived in Shenzhen, China on May 1st. Under the zero tariff treatment, the 24 tons of SA apples enjoyed a tariff reduction of around 50,000 Rand. We welcome more products of SA to reach the Chinese market and hope the policy will better benefit our two peoples.

INTERVIEW🥑: MURSALIN MOHAMMED, Magical Green Africa Foods Avocado collection centers have been set up in rural areas across different counties, creating a direct link between processing companies and local farmers. This enables smallholder farmers to sell even small quantities, with the avocados collected and transported to processing facilities. Meanwhile, China’s zero-tariff treatment is expected to boost demand, increase farmers' incomes, and provide them with the resources to invest in improved cultivation techniques and expand production, contributing to more sustainable agricultural development.

We produce 40% more agricultural products in this country than we can consume domestically. 1 in every 4 rows of soybeans has to go abroad. China is the largest importer of soybeans in the world. For the first time in 20 years, China's bought zero soybeans and zero new crop corn out of this country. We went from $12 billion to zero.

I thanked President Xi Jinping and the people of China for the strong and historic friendship between our two countries. Uganda values China's decision to open its market to our products under the zero-tariff arrangement, which will boost trade and investment opportunities for our people. We also discussed the need for dialogue and peaceful solutions to international conflicts instead of force and confrontation. Uganda and China have continued to enjoy cordial relations for about 70 years now , rooted in mutual respect and cooperation.

Recently, a group of Kenyan friends embarked on a special journey. Kenyan alumni who studied in China, digital content creators, and media representatives participated in the Field Visit: Belt and Road Initiative Practice in Mombasa. The team took the Madaraka Express 🚄 to Mombasa, where they visited projects built by Chinese companies, including the Kipevu Oil Terminal (KOT), the Makupa Bridge, and the Mwache Multipurpose Dam. 🌊Mombasa has a history of more than 1,200 years. Over 600 years ago, Zheng He's fleet reached this place, bringing silk and porcelain from China, and taking back a giraffe 🦒 presented by the African people as a symbol of friendship. Today, Mombasa is an important node in Belt and Road cooperation, playing a significant role in connecting China and Africa. China's experience in infrastructure and livelihood is contributing to Kenya's development, while Kenyan products such as avocados and tea are reaching China's vast market through the Port of Mombasa. 🚢With the continuous deepening of policy coordination, infrastructure connectivity, unimpeded trade, financial integration, and people-to-people ties, high-quality Belt and Road cooperation projects have created more and more job opportunities for local communities and greatly improved local people's lives.
