👇🏼Does anyone else who was placed in the GATE (Gifted and Talented Education) Programs feel as if they were ‘turned off’?

Anyone get extra hearing & vision tests also?

I used to be able to read/ write Elder Futhark and Egyptian Hieroglypics. I also could listen to people speak a language I did not know and just understand 80% or more. Lost it Highschool age - not sure if these programs had anything to do but I was in them.

Of course they turned you off. What do you think all those repeated mouth rinsing with fluoride sessions were all about?

I believe these programs, at least back in the 1980s, were a government program looking for “special” kids. Think 11 from Stranger Things. I’ve got some stories about my childhood and weird things that happened to me when I started being associated with this program in the 1st grade.

I just now remembered something about that time, that could be important. I remember they were doing these strange "hearing" tests in tiny windowless rooms (built to be just for that purpose maybe?) using frequency. I remember how strange I thought then the devices were they used

Yes…. Actually… I’ve explained this to people NUMEROUS times in those words. Almost like “I used to be smart. Now I feel like I have my head down, arm out racing forward and I’m just making it through.”

My wife & I were both in different versions in different states We both had ours called G&T in younger years - I was put into a private school in 5th grade My wife’s in 7 & 8 Grade was called DEAP (Developing Exceptional Academic Performance) We were both in trailers, both with the windows blocked Both looking at shapes - hers was looking into caveman images trying to guess their meaning. Mine was more basic shape puzzles. She also had to do “quick builds” & “problem solving” & said they were “obsessive” about colors. Only thing I remember beyond that was that I took a quiz & I realized they were testing us for Right Brain / Left Brain, & my answers added up to 51 - 49 so I changed one so it’d be even 50-50 😂 My wife got baked good snacks. I have no recollection of eating/drinking/swishing anything

I am older than Gate. In CA it was MGM, mentally gifted minors. We were sent to a different school. Before I woke up, I did research wanting to know why CA no longer had the records for me to join mensa. I always felt I was hand picked for abuse and broken on purpose.

I was in that program at several schools in Florida. Can’t tell you a ton from my childhood. Literally have to be reminded by my older sibling of things I’d forgotten. Major things one shouldn’t forget. Where are you going with this?
