Does anyone remember the game Dark Void? You played a 1930s pilot trapped in a parallel universe after flying through the Bermuda Triangle, fighting aliens with a jetpack and high-jacking UFOs mid-air. It was janky and far from perfect, but man... it was an absolute blast.

I'm such a sucker for these mid 2000s - early 2010s games that are 7/10 at best but have unique concepts and insane amounts of aura.

These are games that were bold with their core ideas.

Hell yeah. A recent game that kinda felt like this was Banishers. A bit too long for its own good, but it was really decent and had a super unique premise.

Yep, still have it. Capcom did many cool experimental games in that era.

Capcom also made that one remake of Bionic Commando if anyone remembers that. Despite its Jank, I kinda miss this era of experimental games.

Yup! I bought this for 360 just for that reason 😁 I think this was his first foray into video game soundtracks.

I don't remember exactly, but the adventure fades to black and then you're in the final mission fighting a dragon defending a portal. No lead up or mention of it. I also think the story implies some time passed from the last mission. It was like the studio ran out of money.

I loved it. Closest I'll ever get to a good Rocketeer game.

I remember it, because the pirated disk it came with also had Mass Effect 2, which was my introduction to the series and BioWare in general.

Xbox gave me this game for free when Games with Gold ended

I remember the jetpack portions were so good (note: I have a huge weakness for jetpacks, so there's some bias) but the on foot combat being a slog. It was at its best in the portions where it had you jetting between small scale firefights in an open world area. I miss that game.

Yes, it was The Rocketeer game I always wanted. One of my old directors worked on it when he was at that studio. I STILL have the theme song and the 8 bit version on my phones music library.

It needed a bit more spit and polish on the controls If memory serves. Like it was put together by Frankenstein in this gloriously weird mishmash of ideas.
