Highly enjoyable impression. Throughout it I'm actually reminded of what an iconic, monumental scene it was. No violence, just a quiet, peaceful cup of coffee, but illustrates what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immoveable object. Truly a great cinematic moment.

In Heat, the iconic restaurant scene was the first time Al Pacino and Robert De Niro shared screen time together. Pacino said De Niro insisted on no rehearsals so the tension between them would feel real. Michael Mann agreed, and what we got is cinematic perfection.

One of Michael Mann’s favorite Robert De Niro moments in Heat, comes right after he confronts Ashley Judd’s character and tells her, “Clean up, go home.” "There's a brilliant Robert De Niro moment here in the way he repeats “clean up, go home”. That is pure De Niro. It is genius. It is the genius of Robert De Niro. And you can't analyze why it's there, how it's there, how it's expressed. It's spontaneous and it's truly in character. And It's from the small moments that you see that just explode out of an actor sometimes, that to me, they demark genius. And you know it when you see it - and that's one of them." Quote is from Michael Mann’s director’s commentary on the Heat DVD

Robert De Niro and Tarantino couldn’t get along before Jackie Brown. De Niro wanted to play Max Cherry. He lobbied for it. But Tarantino already promised that part to Robert Forster. He handed him the script in a restaurant and said, “You will do this, that’s all there is to it.”

50 Cent explains how he took over press duties on Righteous Kill after Robert De Niro and Al Pacino clashed over publicity "I was on Righteous Kill with De Niro and Pacino, and they had press and publicity to do." "Pacino wasn't doing much, and De Niro was like, 'I'm devaluing myself by running around doing this shit after he's not doing anything.'" "I looked at it a little different because it was an opportunity for me. I was in a film with Robert De Niro and Al Pacino, so I was looking at it like, 'I'll do it.'" "They didn't realize how many additional outlets would come because it was 50 Cent, and all the music side came." "It was me not missing an opportunity to make my audience understand that I was working with Al Pacino and Robert De Niro. They didn't have to do that their brands were strong enough for it to be a success anyway."

Robert De Niro stepped into the Criterion Collection Closet and picked out some of his favorite movies. Bob isn’t in the closet long, but any chance to get closer to De Niro is a chance I’ll take. De Niro is a living, breathing slice of Cinema history. Protect this man at all costs.

Leonardo DiCaprio once shocked Robert De Niro in an audition. Mid-scene, De Niro’s ramming a mustard jar into his eye, asking “Is it empty?” Leo stood up, pointed at him, and screamed “NO!!!” at the top of his lungs. De Niro was holding back laughter.

The older I get, the stronger I feel that Casino is a better film than Goodfellas. I think a big reason for that is Robert De Niro. De Niro is brilliant in both films but he’s underutilized in Goodfellas. In Casino, that’s not the case- Bob is given the keys to the car & he drives the shit out of it. I think Casino is the best De Niro-Scorsese collaboration behind Taxi Driver.

In The Irishman (2019), Robert De Niro wore platform shoes to match Frank Sheeran’s real-life height of 6’4”. De Niro is actually 5’10”, which is why the difference really shows in scenes with Al Pacino’s Jimmy Hoffa, who was only about 5’5”.

Robert De Niro only agreed to star in Heat after reading the legendary diner scene. He, Al Pacino, and director Michael Mann all admitted they were counting the days until they could film it. De Niro refused any rehearsals for the sequence, wanting the raw tension between the two characters to feel absolutely authentic and unrehearsed.
