Doing something new this year, grazing out some Goliath spring forage oats instead of putting them up for hay. Drought had the grass brown so we called an audible and are grazing out some of the spring forage acres. Like the results so far.

Always try something new… Something we are always keen to do here is try different things. This year, we got chance of some raw chips. Ideal for finishing cattle, so we thought let’s try clamping some with the first cut. So we got 150t of chips delivered the week before we cut, to let the water drain out of them. As the silage was going in Jake was scattering them around the pit with the loadall. The theory is, it’s a way to store more starch while prices are reasonable but also adding it in to the fermentation of the silage should soften them and make them more like mash so it mixes better through the grass. Time will tell, it might be a waste of time. But if you don’t throw the dice you never know what might of happened.🍟

We are having some R&R and fun in Oklahoma for the kids spring break. We found this awesome toy of Grandpa Ted and Lowry wanted to clean it up. So cool to find stuff like this and Lowry did a great job getting it shined up but leaving a little patina.
