Also played second when the Pine tar game was restarted. A clip like this just reminds me how unfair it is to southpaws: pitcher, outfield, first base. That’s it.

His fielding instincts and positioning were incredible. He was damn near a weapon on defense…holding runners, turning DPs, fielding bad throws, stretching on close plays, managing iffy cutoff throws. No wonder he became a manager. Great situational fielder.

They didn’t win that year, but Mattingly was clearly the best player in the MLB then. Is HOF worthy.
