Nigeria currently has a few officially approved GMO crops regulated by the [National Biosafety Management Agency (NBMA)]( and many conventional (non-GMO) crops widely grown across the country. GMO Crops Approved in Nigeria The officially recognized GMO crops approved for commercial release in Nigeria include: 1. Bt Cotton Engineered to resist bollworm pests. Approved in 2016. 2. PBR Cowpea (Pod Borer Resistant Cowpea / GM Beans) Modified to resist the Maruca vitrata pod borer insect. Approved in 2019. 3. TELA Maize (GM Maize/Corn) Designed for drought tolerance and insect resistance. Approved in 2021. Nigeria’s GMO approval database is managed by the [Nigerian Biosafety Database]( Non-GMO Crops Commonly Grown in Nigeria Most crops grown in Nigeria are still conventional/non-GMO varieties. These include: Cereals Rice Sorghum Millet Wheat Conventional maize varieties Root & Tuber Crops Cassava, Yam, Sweet potato, Irish potato, Cocoyam Legumes Soybean, Groundnut (peanut), Bambara nut Pigeon pea Conventional cowpea varieties Vegetables Tomato Pepper Onion Okra Garden egg Amaranth (green vegetables) Fruits Banana Plantain Orange, Mango, pineapple, Watermelon, Pawpaw Cash & Export Crops Cocoa Cashew Sesame Oil palm Rubber Ginger Hibiscus Coffee Kolanut Industrial & Plantation Crops Sugarcane Tobacco Coconut At present, Nigeria’s agricultural system is still dominated by non-GMO farming, especially among smallholder farmers. GMO adoption remains limited mainly to approved cotton, cowpea, and maize varieties.

@Naij_Farmer Thank you for this 🙏

@Naij_Farmer Even with the availability of the Internet a lot of people still find it tasking to do little research as to what matters. Thanks for your voice on this matter sir.

@Naij_Farmer You're welcome Baami

@Naij_Farmer True a disease affected ginger seeds few years ago but we are working to get back on track. When I heard that there’s no indigenous ginger seeds (tafin giwa) I was wondering what did I plant two weeks ago . We should be careful with misinformation

@Naij_Farmer Well-done Oga mi 💪💪💪

@Naij_Farmer Thanks boss

@Naij_Farmer Very soon people will come to say that you were paid instead of listening to credible information 🙂↔️

@Naij_Farmer There are already blaming bill gates 😂

@Naij_Farmer 😂😂😂

@Naij_Farmer Tinubu whore, once we have a working government in this country again we know the set of people to pick out as scapegoats. You are one of them. A proper, unfortunate bigot.

@Naij_Farmer 😂😂😂

@Naij_Farmer This sellout said a lot without saying what caused the so called BLIGHT United States of America gave our farmers pesticides that they called gifts and intervention. This led to the end our ginger production as they developed blights and rejected by international market

@Naij_Farmer Thank you farmer prof.

@Naij_Farmer You're welcome Uncle B

@Naij_Farmer Nigerian loves misinformation ginger doesn't have GMO And the native seed is still available (i.e., the yellow Tafin Giwa). All this new or imported mix should be blamed on the seed bank and NRCRI for not discouraging continuous monocropping

@Naij_Farmer God will take you and all your loved ones

@Naij_Farmer God does not work that way bro I've only explained the reason behind everything. It seems it doesn't fit your agenda hence your outburst. MSU God heals you from the pain

@Naij_Farmer Evil Demon, selling out the future of your country’s food security for a US Visa and $$

@Naij_Farmer Funny how I'm just hearing about Galanga for the first time in my life... Thank you for the clarification

@Naij_Farmer Thanks for the information 👏👏👏

@Naij_Farmer You're welcome Uncle Sanmi

@Naij_Farmer Ignorance is indeed a disease. Well done @Nig_Farmer

@Naij_Farmer Please educate Nigerians because I am tired of all this lazy excuses without evidence.

@Naij_Farmer Make I go drop your video for the senseless people in my comment about this

@OmolewaAbraham @Naij_Farmer we should actually enlighten the public, GMOs are not bad!

@Naij_Farmer Thank you

@Naij_Farmer Thanks, you cleared a lot of doubts. So why do sellers sell it as ginger and not call it what it is?

@Naij_Farmer Stay Skeptical!

@Naij_Farmer I am reading it’s hard to tell galangal and ginger apart without a taste test.

@TundeEmirate @Naij_Farmer Rumours spread too fast it becomes so hard to know what is true or not. I guess the next step now is to find solutions to the fungal infection.

@Rxbremen @Naij_Farmer God bless you sir

@Rxbremen @Naij_Farmer Bless you more sir

@Naij_Farmer Our indigenous ginger is growing well in my area without any disease. It is wasting away around me. Nobody is care about this plant. The improved variety is prune to attack due to the inability to adapt to the environment.

@Naij_Farmer Oga the man you’re supporting is destroying the country. We keep losing investors everyday. Insecurity he refused to end is ravaging farmers and communities

@Naij_Farmer This one is what???

@Naij_Farmer Oloriburuku plenty for this comment section

@Naij_Farmer So if Nigeria leaders are not stupid… why would ginger production fall so low to the point we are now importing who knows what from Asia? and do we even know if wat we are importing frm Asia poisonous

@Naij_Farmer AGRICULTURAL LAW TO KNOW ✍️Never plant on a large scale before testing and confirming the right variety. Misinformation is costly in agriculture. Clean planting materials and proper diagnosis matter.

@Naij_Farmer Thank you for sharing this information
