Our monarchy has exempted itself from 160 laws since 1967. Laws ranging from animal welfare to workers rights. Now we have an opportunity to change that. Ask King Charles to rule out any further royal exemptions. Sign and share โœ๏ธ

Brilliant work, Clive! In a time of climate crisis and a cavernous wealth gap, we need progressive elected leaders. Hereditary power shames us.

Royal haters are UK haters. Thereโ€™s no room in Parliament (or government) for people like you. You are a disgrace @labourlewis

@Teagy63 With all due respect, Clive, we both know that The King-whilst exempt- still pays his taxes.

The entire point of these traditions and ceremonies, is the symbiotic assertion of rule. The Crown is given legitimacy holding onto the strong arm of the military. The military is granted legitimacy through the banners of the monarch. However, such interdependence raises a deep concern. Because if the monarch is the embodiment of birthright and inherited privilege and the Armed Forces, as a recent British Army press statement put it, are there to โ€œdestroy the Kingโ€™s enemiesโ€, how does this rest with modernity and โ€“ indeed โ€“ modern war?

I think we need to move on from old inheritors of vast British wealth from the time of William the conqueror wearing capes and diamonds on their heads and living in castles which we fund but have no access to. All they represent is the tradition of deference to ludicrous characters like Rees mogg who know nothing but talk in a posh voice and history of a bygone age of exploitation of the colonies and slavery. We need a republicans meritocracy. A cheap no power president to shake a few hands and meet some ambassadors is fine but we donโ€™t need some bloke parading around in irrelevant outfits in the hope that it makes us feel better about our country. Those castles need to earn us some money as they do the French

@Wolf_Thiel It's just so good & refreshing to have an elected politician telling these truths & pointing out the ridiculous anachronism that is UK-style "royalty" in 2023. ๐Ÿ‘
