@VioletStonePies Yes a lot of cheap restaurants are just buying pre-cooked factory food. But good restaurants, quality, restaurants, with owners who take pride in their work, know how to cook and make great food. I dine in them frequently and I love what I eat.

@A_326_29_816 @VioletStonePies Sold my restaurant in ‘06, went to work for Sysco afterwards then decided to retire four years later; it’s a dirty business that encourages their marketing team to lie to their customers.

@VioletStonePies 99% of what I make at home is from scratch. That’s why I don’t go out to eat much anymore. It’s overpriced slop. $17 for a bowl of soup? I can make a whole pot of that soup for $17. Good luck.

@VioletStonePies It helps to have meat ick. I want to cut up and trim my own meat to make sure no creepy parts get into my food. Would rather make homemade chicken nuggets than buy some creepy meat frozen product.

@VioletStonePies you dont have to cook chicken fingers from a bag... even sysco offers raw chicken, flour, and eggs

@VioletStonePies I once tried a new "Authentic Italian" place in town and ordered a Calzone with this, that etc in it. Waitress says we can't do that. It took me asking once or twice before I said "y'all ain't making them from scratch are you". Nope.

@VioletStonePies This goes a step further. Purveyors are now more than ever eliminating prep cooks. Side effects of minimum wage increases

@VioletStonePies The funny thing is that’s what keeps the costs down and keeps people safe. Some shit we do on our own won’t last but one meal. In the kitchens I’ve worked in they have to waste so much fresh stuff because it isn’t sustainable. And they’re switching to more sysco usfoods anyway

@VioletStonePies You should get started on the restaurants that order pre-made crap from Sysco. They sell everything, including very high-end and fresh products; most restaurant owners, though, are cheap and don’t care.

@VioletStonePies Absolutely. Capitalism works when it isn't controlled by a few. What we see today is awful and too many people are asleep at the wheel to notice.

@VioletStonePies Sysco does offer different levels of quality and there are other distributors but restaurants choose what products they use so it’s more on them. They all just want the cheapest shit

@VioletStonePies When my stepdad had his BBQ joint in Middle TN, he only ordered a few things like fries from big distributors. For 37 yrs, he either made foods from scratch or bought locally, including thick cut bacon, country sausage, milk, & produce. He couldn’t do that easily now.
