Someone was telling me that Portuguese is like a dialect of Spanish. Portuguese understand Spaniards but no the other way around

This has more to do with the fact that all Spanish sounds exist within the Portuguese language. However Portuguese has sounds that don't exist in Spanish The word for true for example 🇨🇴🇲🇽🇵🇷: Verdad (pronounced: ber-dad) 🇧🇷: Verdade(pronounced ver-da-gee) That de = gee doesn't exist in Spanish

@cloutiness Gee is Brazilian Portuguese…not the original one from Portugal

@cloutiness Nobody learns Portuguese for Portugal🤣

You clearly don’t speak either.

Stick to baseball and begging for national park money. This is beyond you

lol. “Don’t fall...” As if there’s some stupid conspiracy to convince the world that Spanish and Portuguese are the same. Thanks for getting to the bottom of this mystery, Sherlock.

Brazil is full of gringos trying to get by with just Spanish. Like I said. This conversation is beyond you. Stick to tweeting about the dodgers

You’re clearly one of those gringos. lmao

Most of those are synonyms. That’s why you can communicate but it’s hard to be a fluent speaker. I’ve known Spaniards living in Portugal for 20y and they still struggle with using the most “common” words. Also they keep the funny accent

Hum... Então falso cognato em inglês é "false friend".

As spanish speaker it is possible to understand some words and expressions in Portuguese. Although, I find Portuguese closer to French, and Portuguese speaker feel comfortable learning French (which to me was and still is a pain in the ass). Italian is closer to spanish.

They’re very similar and we can understand each others language. I’m Argentinian and my boyfriend is Brazilian, he learned Spanish and I learned Portuguese, some words might be different but most of them are pretty similar

I can understand most of the Portuguese ones as a native Spanish speaker, most of them used to mean the same in old Spanish

Sim, ambas descendem do Latim, assim como o Francês e o Italiano

1. Boyfriend 2. Fiancé/groom 3 Fast 4. Rat/mouse 5. Cup/glass 🥛 🍶 6. Glass 🍷🥂 7. Mug cup 🍵☕ 8. Pregnant 9. Embarrassed 10. Soon 11. Ready/finished 12. Salty 13. Salad 14. Barbecue 15. Roast/ed/baked (Frito in portuguese means fried)

Portuguese sounds so nice!!!

That's false cognates. Next

85% of similarities, even these words in some parts of Portugal or Brazil say the same as spanish... Or at least can be understandable because have more than 1 word with the same meaning. But basically is almost the same

15% is exactly the same… it changes only the pronunciation 40-50% changes only the end of the word (celebration = celebración = celebração) False friends are around 5% between both languages Frases construction is mainly Subject – Object – Verb in 75% for both PT & ES

spanish sounds simular because its a derivative of portugese

RATO is not RÁPIDO, it is wrong! RATO is "UM MOMENTO", "UM INSTANTE"

It is basically the same language and any minimally intelligent Brazilian can understand them perfectly.

I'm portuguese native, and I can understand 90% of spanish when I try to watch a youtube video in spanish or meme

yeah, they just speak english, in south america if brazilians talk to anyone else they have to specifically know spanish, otherwise they just use english

Seriously. It’s actually much worse than what this video shows. Especially with their Brazilian accent. Which is a shame because Brazilians are hot. And make up almost half of South Americans. Trump should just invade them and make them English speaking.

Spanish and Portuguese are similar bruh, it’s just that portuguese phonetically is challenging to understand for us spanish speakers but we can understand 80% of it when we read it

If you speak spanish, definitely know thst spanish and portuguese are pretty similar

This happens even within the same language, when considering different dialects

Lol Brazilian Portuguese isn’t even the same language as Portuguese. The same can be said for Colombian Spanish but it’s not as extreme.

Honestly man, Brazilian Portuguese isn't even the same at Portugal Portuguese. It's very much like US and Irish English. No sane person could honestly think Portuguese and Spanish are the same.

And never speak Spanish to a Brazilian

Apodo y apellido son muy curiosas

@KBlimbly62022 Elas falaram as palavras que mais são confundidas na tradução do português/espanhol. Quem não confunde essas palavras, está em um nível muito bom nas duas línguas.
