WOMEN, DON’T FORGET THE SAFE ACT. HOPE FOR THE BEST, BUT **P R E P A R E** FOR THE WORST! GET YOUR DOCUMENTS READY: 1) Copy of Birth Certificate 2) Copy of Marriage Certificate 3) Copy of Final Divorce Filing 4) Passport 5) Drivers License I was able to order my birth certificate and my marriage certificate online. Low cost. Check your County Recorder’s website. (See link below) I found my divorce filing in online court documents. Your state may have all of it online. I think you need your divorce filing if you want to change your name back to your maiden name on your DL. From what I understand, the SAFE ACT rules are: if your name on your drivers license doesn’t match the name on your birth certificate you may need to show a passport to prove citizenship. I am not sure if showing your marriage certificate will suffice. You’d think it would. The other thing I am not sure on is whether the SAFE ACT would apply to new voter registrations only or whether all voters need to reregister… I am already registered but in my married name. I’m also unclear… when do we show these documents? At the polling places? If the SAFE ACT passes, I’m sure it will be headline news so we will find out. If you decide on getting your passport, just remember that the applications are more costly because of photos and filing fee. It also takes longer to process. My point is, GET YOUR DOCUMENTS IN ORDER NOW. DON’T WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE. WE NEED EVERY WOMAN’S VOTE! We can’t let this blatant attempt to suppress our votes succeed!
