Plume Network vs. Ondo Finance: Two Takes on Tokenization So, how are Plume ($PLUME) and Ondo Finance ($ONDO) approaching the tokenization of real world assets? Both projects aim to bring traditional financial assets onchain. But they approach the opportunity from different angles. Plume is building infrastructure for real world asset finance, with a focus on making these assets usable across onchain applications. Ondo, meanwhile, focuses on bringing traditional financial products, including US Treasuries and tokenized stocks, onto blockchain networks, and is now building infrastructure around them. Here’s where their approaches differ. (1) Plume is building an ecosystem for RWA finance. Plume is designed to support the issuance, distribution, and use of tokenized real world assets. Its approach extends beyond representing an asset onchain. The goal is to help those assets interact with lending markets, trading applications, and other DeFi services. Its stack includes Arc (Arc) for tokenization and Nest for yield vaults, with compliance tools such as KYC and sanctions screening built into the chain. (2) Ondo started by bringing traditional financial exposure onchain Ondo has built products around tokenized US Treasuries and 450+ tokenized stocks and ETFs. Its tokenized offerings aim to give eligible users blockchain based access to traditional market exposure, subject to product and regional restrictions. It has since added Ondo Chain and an SEC-registered transfer agent. (3) Their starting points are different. Plume began as a chain built for RWA finance, with compliance and DeFi tools at the protocol level. Ondo began with the assets themselves and is building outward toward the rails. (4) Tokenization is only the first step. Putting an asset onchain does not automatically make it liquid, widely accessible, or usable as collateral. Issuers still need to address custody, compliance, investor eligibility, and the rights attached to each token. At the end, Plume and Ondo are not simply competing to put assets onchain. They represent two approaches to a broader question: how should traditional finance work on blockchain rails?
