Sesko’s injury and Rashford’s return changed the picture, but once Sesko was fit, why not return to that same structure? Playing players out of position usually produces average performances. Cunha as a false 9 has dulled his impact and distorted the attack. Use him on the left. Start Rashford there if needed and bring Cunha on later. Sesko through the middle. Mbeumo on the right. That was the platform. Second: Bruno Fernandes. The changes have made him a shadow of himself. At times it is unclear whether he is an attacking midfielder or a supporting striker. He looks lost. Stick him in the role that made him the heartbeat of this team. Third: Patrick Dorgu. Playing him at left wing earlier this season has unsettled him at left-back. The basics of defending have suffered. Losing the ball, abandoning his position, and chasing play all the way across to the right-back side left space that led to Haaland’s goal.
