this is a hard one to understand. the only thing in that water is the trace calcium or bacteria and metals from the tap.

Total BS. There is no good clinical proof that the leftover water from boiling eggs, when sprayed on the scalp, strengthens hair roots or stops shedding. What exists is much narrower: A 2018 study isolated water-soluble peptides from egg yolk (not the cooking water from whole boiled eggs). In lab dishes those peptides increased VEGF production and growth of human hair-follicle dermal papilla cells. They also sped hair growth in mice. A small human arm of the same work used the peptides orally in women with female-pattern hair loss and reported some improvement. That is not the same as spraying kitchen leftover water. Reviews of topical egg treatments (whole egg, yolk, or white masks) consistently say there are no large randomized trials showing they reduce shedding or grow hair. Nutrients in eggs (protein, biotin, zinc, etc.) help when you eat them, especially if you are deficient; the skin barrier limits how much of those large molecules get into the follicle when you just spray or smear them on. Boiling further reduces the chance that useful peptides survive and leach into the water in meaningful amounts. Most of the protein coagulates inside the egg. So the viral claim is an extrapolation from a lab peptide study plus folklore. It is not supported by trials of the actual kitchen hack. If hair loss is bothering you, evidence-based options (minoxidil, treating deficiencies, seeing a doctor for the underlying cause) have far stronger data.
