My cousins and my brother and I were exploring Coney Island, we saw the sights, hung out at the arcades and before we went back to the apartment we decided to go and get something to eat, we had some money on us but not much so we decided to see what we could get at one of the vendors. This was back in the early 90’s when most of them had dollar slices of pizza wherever we went. So we got 4 pieces of pizza, should have been $4 because that’s the price we were used to. The guy wanted to charge us $24 at $6 a slice. We argues with him because one of my cousins already took a bite being so hungry. But at the least we owed $4. We gave the other slices back and refused them but had to pay for the partially eaten one, it was embarrassing that an adult would try that on a bunch of kids. We told our uncle what happened and he went back and yelled at the vendor. He was familiar with them because he used to get slices all the time from the same guy and he never charged my uncle that price. I couldn’t imagine paying that exurban amount, like this guy who was being charged $54 for a hotdog by one of the vendors. At first he thought it was a typo and it was $5.40 but the vendor. Learned it up when he said no it was $54. Would you have paid that amount? I would have walked away, clearly he was trying to possibly scam a the man for looking like a tourist. Part of the experience when visiting a new area is the street food but it’s becoming more and more a chore avoiding places like this.

We were on the motorway… My whole family was visiting from the UK, and we were on our way to drop someone at the airport. The car was full of luggage… and in the middle of fast-moving traffic, we suddenly saw two dogs… on the narrow middle strip where cars rush past at terrifying speed. One of them was sitting there… completely still… silent… heartbreakingly sad. We drove ahead, found a way back, and returned to them. And what we saw… was not just a scene — it was a story that broke something inside me. He was not alone. He was sitting beside his partner… who had already passed away. Her body had turned stiff… God knows how long she had been lying there… and he… had not left her side. Cars were speeding past just inches from him… but he did not move. Not for fear. Not for his life. We carefully moved her body to a safer place… because we knew if we left her there, he would stay… and lose his life too. But our car was full… we had no equipment to bury her, no rescue setup with us that day… and our shelter was nearly three hours away. We had to leave. But my heart stayed behind with him. The next day… we had to go to the airport again… and deep down, I prayed we wouldn’t see him there. But he was. 36 hours had passed… and he was still there. Same place. Same sadness. Same empty eyes. No food. No water. Just sitting beside her… What kind of loyalty is this? We called our team immediately. It was Eid… they were on leave… but they left everything and came. Three hours of travel… just for one life. But when they tried to rescue him… he ran away. Because we humans have only taught them pain. We have never shown them that we can love too. We buried his partner there… at least she left this world with dignity. And he… disappeared into the fields… with a broken heart. And one question stayed with me… We call ourselves the most superior of creation… but are we? Or is it him… who refused to leave, even after death? Maybe… we are not who we think we are 💔

🍒 : as the six of us have been practicing these days, i find myself reminiscing alot about the past. the time when we had to live together in the dorm.. there's a certain emotion that can only be felt back then.. something sentimental 🐻 : we talk about those days a lot 🍒 : because we didn’t even have phones back then, so if we wanted to hang out, we could only hang out with each other. we literally try do just about anything. we bought laptops and played games together 🐻 : we even did things like sneaking out to the lotte mart in jamsil to buy spinning tops. we just played with spinning tops together because we really had nothing else to do! 🍒 : but it was so much fun. that was when we were preparing for debut and we would secretly bring the spinning-top arena in our bags to the practice room and keep playing there 🐻 : we all just wanted to win, even if it was just with something like that 🐥 : yes, that's right! that's right!

Speaking of the 2004 election in Ohio, John Kerry told Brian Lehrer in 2018 that “The problem for us was we were doubting whether the [voting] machines themselves had been appropriately measured & whether the algorithms were correct, etc. We challenged that ahead of time by the way. People don’t know that. And we were told by the court that we were not able to get that algorithm, to check it, bc it was proprietary information. And I believe that it was absolutely incorrect that in the United States of America, the election for the presidency of the United States should somehow be the purview of privately owned machines where the public doesn’t have the right to know whether the algorithms can be checked or whether they are hackable or not. And we now know they are hackable. But we knew as we sat there to decide where to go in terms of the challenge, that we were a nation at war, we had just been through a Supreme Court test of an election four years earlier. I thought once I measured it that whatever constitutional challenge we brought or whatever appropriate challenge we brought to the ballots that were counted, it was going to wind up ultimately in the Supreme Court, and the Supreme Court would do the same thing that it did before. We would take the country through a three month exercise with a 5/4 decision that would award the presidency back to George Bush. Now some people may think that’s the right thing to have done. VIDEO: How we used religion to give Tinubu victory – El-Rufai The former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has said that he and some northern governors used religion as a political tool to give victory to Asiwaju Bola Tinubu in the 2023 presidential election. According to the former governor, the decision to use religion as a political strategy was to help tackle the issue of tribalism and religion in politics in the country. The former governor stated this in a viral video. He was speaking to an audience in the Hausa language in Kaduna at an event before handing over to his successor. He said, “Allah sees our heart, me and Zamfara State Governor, Mutawalle did it because of God and we didn’t do it because of anything. We only do it in order to have solutions to the current religious problem we are having in Nigeria and for us to give South West Muslims a sense of belonging to rule. And it is because of religion that we used that gave Asiwaju victory.” He also noted that the Muslim/Muslim ticket that he used to achieve political success in Kaduna has now been replicated in Nigeria with the emergence of Bola Tinubu as president and Kashim Shetima as vice president. He said, “What we are able to achieve in Kaduna state now has been achieved in Nigeria as a whole. There is no liar that will come and say he will do politics as a Christian and win an election. Guys, I’m broken. I am sitting here in tears, and I can't hold it anymore. This country breaks people in ways you never think possible. I have looked for words since yesterdat but I couldn't find any until this video. I have just watched Ssegirinya Muhammad crying, asking why anyone would tie him to such grave crimes like murdering people in Masaka — his birthplace — all because of politics. And honestly, I don’t think I have ever been this heartbroken over anything in Ugandan politics. This man gave up his whole life to serve people. From the moment he became an MP, he didn’t start by “dusting himself off” like most of our leaders do. He didn’t focus on buying fancy cars or securing his own comfort. No. He went straight to work for the people who voted him in. He started projects to help the poor, to take care of the sick, to make life a little easier for the struggling families that elected him. He was different. He cared in ways we don’t often see in our leaders. And how did we, as a country, pay him back? We watched as the system came after him. We watched as he was accused of crimes so ridiculous it hurt to even listen. Murder? Really? They accused him of killing his own people in Masaka. And we said nothing. We just looked on as this man’s life was destroyed bit by bit. We saw his health deteriorate in prison, and we kept quiet. We saw him being denied bail even when those closest to him told us he needed urgent medical treatment. We all remember that judge in Masaka who saw him on a Zoom call from prison and still said NO to bail. The Prisons commissioner told us they have the capacity to treat him in prison even when we later learnt that the whole of this country couldn't treat him. I mean, how can someone see another human being suffering like that and still refuse them a chance to get help? No, guys, NO. Ssegirinya is gone. He’s dead. And this wasn’t just nature taking its course. This wasn’t God’s plan. This was us. This was the system. This was our silence. Our looking the other way. We are complicit. We watched the government persecute a man for standing with the people. We watched them destroy him because he cared more about serving than about playing the political game. We let this happen. And now he’s gone. I keep asking myself — is this what politics in this country has come to? Destroying so many people just to stay in power? Locking up anyone who threatens the status quo without any crime? This is not normal my friends, NO. We can’t just move on from this. A man is dead because he chose to serve his people. He gave everything he could to make life better for his people. And in return, he was fought, persecuted, humiliated, and denied basic human decency. We should be ashamed. Ashamed that we let it get to this point. Ashamed that politics in Uganda has become a death sentence for anyone who tries to stand up for the oppressed. And it’s not just Ssegirinya. How many more lives have been lost? How many more are wasting away in prisons right now for simply demanding a better country? Politics should never take us to this point.
