I recall dating a woman with an abusive ex, and when we “argued” for the first time (via text) and I wanted to actually talk while she dodged and played passive-aggressive, I mentioned that it was unproductive and it irritated me. She claimed I couldn’t say things like I’m “irritated” because of what she’d gone through with her ex. There was no way to convince her that conveying my frustrations is how I and other well-adjusted men actually regulate our patience.
