We survived.

I'm going to guess that thing gets red hot in the summertime too.

Get over it, that looks like many slides from when I was a kid, and they were fun as hell, and we got hurt and just walked it off, if was a fun time, I really don’t see the problem other than over protective PARENTS

When we were kids at school, we all convinced our moms to pack our lunch sandwiches in wax paper. Then we’d use the wax paper on the steel slide at school. You would rocket down that thing like the Large Hadron Collider, right on to the asphalt playground. We had a blast. Went through a lot of Bactine though.

Saw this bad boy in Zurich this week!

I grew up sliding down a baking sheet. I survived.

*laughs in Gen-x” these were our battle grounds as kids. People today are weak.

Are you kidding me?!!? That is the slide OF MY DREAMS!! Grow a spine and leave it there for the few BRAVE kids we have left!

Bro dropped his loot 😭

You have to toughen up kids now a days hot, rusty and we loved it

That's your typical slide back in the 70s and 80s. You people need to stop turning your kids into a bunch of wusses!

One or two complaints are probably Karens. But when you have the entire neighborhood complaining, then maybe... just maybe... there might be an actual problem. 🤣

I mean, we Gen Xers grew up with slides like this. In the middle of summer it you'd burn the crap out of yourself. Oh and our playgrounds were built on asphalt. I swear, kids ( and apparently some adults) soft as hell these days.

Weaklings 😂

🤣🤣🤣 I didn’t expect to see a grown man get rag dolled down a slide. I bet most people who watched this wants to ride it now! Definitely isn’t a child’s ride.

Approved for kids of the 60s and 70s.

Hi, Gen X here. We rode 40 foot high metal slides that had no tube. We jumped off the sides. The metal seared our backs and legs. We climbed the chain link tower and fell off. We lived. Get tougher kids and don’t send 220 lb cops down the slide to make a false point.

What a blast! If Boston no longer wants this slide, I will gladly take it off their hands. Road trip.

That is a slide from the Boomer and Gen X era. Brings back fun memories.

I mean, did he start out in that direction or is the slide that dangerous that it somehow flips you around as you descend 🤷🏾♂️

Evidently they would have succumbed to the playgrounds of the 1970's and 1980's. They weeded out the weak back then.

These slide made boys into men.

he was gonna go 😂😂😂

Those are the slides I grew up on, and the merry go rounds, the monkey bars, it made us tough lol

TBH, there is such a system break down, that I'm surprised they even sent some 'official' with orders to try it themselves. Normally, they trust the builders, engineers, and manufacturers. And normally all those people have insurance & laws governing, so that they keep in line, and authentically build something safe & worth the price. Those stops are removed now. Check out the 'new home' builds, and the inspectors reporting them. Then you'll see it more clearly. Thanks for the post.

Oh come on, that slide rocks. All the playgrounds suck now.

Blimey, we’ve got slides bigger than that, and therefore faster due to the higher drop, in my local town park in England. My grandchildren love it, and come down it on a jacket made of slippery fabric, to go shooting off the end 🤣

That’s the slide I grew up on…sell it to me, all my friends and I had a blast…when we say this new generation is soft, this is exactly what we are talking about!

The buck stops here. Down the slide she goes.

Guess you weren't a kid in the 70's to early 90's? Toughen up buttercup

When I was a kid in Arizona, we had one one of these stainless steel slides in a park we used to frequent. The Maillard reaction you'd get when sliding down was brutal.

I still don’t know what they’re complaining about! That would’ve been the greatest thing when I was grown up! Rub some mud on it and just make sure you’re home before the street lights come on

That officer should have got up, pepper sprayed, tazed and shot the slide🤣

City of Boston's replacement planned for Spring '26.
