Removing the covering is non sense : the light doesn't use this path ...

really ? according to your observations it looks bad for you?

Light path is on the edge, with original reflective coating, more light goes through the edges.

why for this comment?

Because it’s a stupid thing to do. This handmade lamp won’t enhance the interior—ruining so many discs and spending so much time for a questionable result. It’s just producing trash for the sake of content.

これなら、CDの表面削る必要も無いし、ボルトも外周に3本立てれば、穴空けもいらないのでCDストッカー兼照明器具として両立させれば良い

I would never do this to physical media.

Because I cherish that which I have bought. Streaming media will always sub-par to something you can hold on your hands.

Don't throw away your CDs, you just need a background in carpentry, access to niche materials and specialized equipment. 🤣

‘Really creativity’ should still stick to basic safety rules. Enjoy breathing in those creative fumes when the things melts and combusts.

Or... follow me here. I DO throw away my damaged CDs, what little of them that I have. Because I, like most people, don't have the specialized equipment to do this even if I had the time and skills to pull it off.

Don't throw away the music you actually own, turn it into a shitty lamp instead so you can keep renting music from rich people!

Rather line them up properly and drill holes. You underestimate how dumb people are with heat.

R-Z's profile picture

stupid instructions. that column from old CDs will still light up even if you don't rub off the printed layer and there's no need to make those 3 holes there either - just put an M5 threaded rod through the center and put 3 LED strips around it.

At first, I thought this was going to be a “polish your old CDs and they might still work” kind of tip 😅 But turning them into a lamp is actually a lovely idea ✨
