Don't understand the leftist admiration for Mughals. Here's a leftist argument against them. More than 20% of the National Income was spent on a handful of Mughal Court Elites, who lived more luxurious lives - Farting and Burping in secluded gardens - than any European Aristocracy. As for colonialism,... the Mughals were themselves 'colonialists' of a certain kind. They saw themselves as Timuriyya and would discriminate against 80-90% of indigenous Muslims(Razeel) on racial grounds and 80-90% of Hindus(Kafir or worse, Mushrik) on religious grounds. Many Mughals would be very horrified to learn they were Indian. Administrative class was disproportionately persian and military leadership was disproportionately Turkic or Afghan. This was similar to the colonial British racial hierarchy where they prioritised full blooded whites first, below them mixed race Anglo-Indians/Mixed-Race, and full-blooded natives last in India and Africa. If anything Brits were less worse because they weren't particularly communal. There were indeed exceptions, but India faced two major colonialisms, Turko-Persian-Mongol and British. There is a regional issue here at hand too in that Northie High-Culture is Persianate/Islamicate, so Northie Leftists defend Mughals and Delhi Sultanate etc. while chimping at Brits.show more
