Parrot owners have been taught not to use the self-cleaning feature because the fumes we can't see can kill our birds...

That's right!

Everything in this video is great. Also, something that I learned working on a project working with an insurance company that insured appliances. Look at where the put the boards (electronics), look at how little insulation there is. There is no explanation for why they are designed the way they are. Unless you want the appliances to fail after a few self-cleans post warranty.

It's alarming how design choices seem to prioritize cost over safety and longevity. Thanks for connecting the dots!

@kennethdavid Because people choose cost before everything, long lasting products exist they just cost the same inflation adjusted price as they did in the 1970’s

I think people will find if they try to add a little "buy once cry once" philosophy into their lives - they will be much happier with their purchases. It may seem like the up front cost is higher, but I'm always looking for the product that will last a lot longer than the competitors. I end up saving money and having a better experience for the life of the item.

Best one you’ve ever done. I quit using it many years ago when the smell made me think POISEN. Hurt my eyes and it felt toxic to my lungs. I have dogs and was afraid I was harming them. Now I use vinegar, baking soda and lemon. Doesn’t look as clean but works just fine.

Correct!! I do the same with baking soda and lemon as a scrub.

I never use the self clean. These stupid ovens only have a working life of about 5 years. - why clean them if you're most likely going to be buying a new one every 5 yearss! LOL

Correct!! Same here, I never use the self clean.

Great to know! Wow

Absolutely! I never use it.

I have used self clean several times without issue. Of course, I always follow the directions, which always say to take very thing out of the oven, including the racks. Using them to clean baking pans seems dangerous.

Just because you said not to the liberal women would go and do it. They hate when men tell them what to do. 😂

That would not surprise me. Lol 😅

Well, I got my popcorn ready if it does happen if it doesn’t, it just confirms that women aren’t in the kitchen! 😂

Truth- I had an oven catch on fire, blew the glass out the front. Would never use self clean option again.

That's scary. 😲

Electric ovens aren’t producing carbon monoxide. 🫠 If you have enough residue that starts a fire probably should do a bit of preliminary cleaning first. 🙄

The oven is supposed to be empty. It’s a self clean. Not a dish washer.

Self cleaning was never meant for the fucking pans....

Then why the fuck does it have a self cleaning mode?

You could also turn on the vent fan on the hood . That will remove the fumes . PS that's what it's for .

It will kill pet birds.

It's true.

Those two baking sheets did not come out of a self cleaning oven looking like that. The oven burns the patina or grease residue off of surfaces in the oven and when it's done there is a white powder covering everything which is the ash from the burnt residue. You don't just open the door and everything is shining like you just used glass cleaner on them.

@SdDawg8 I would never entertain the idea of using the self-cleaning oven as a dishwasher for pans. Pretty sure that self-cleaning feature is to self clean the oven, not pots and pans.

That's why God made parchment paper.

Self-cleaning ovens heat to 900°F, burning food residue into ash. This process releases carbon monoxide and fumes, which can cause headaches, dizziness, or flu-like symptoms; especially in poor ventilation.

Or follow the instructions, which tell you to remove shelves and trays, and ventilate the room. 🤷♂️ It’s designed to clean the special oven liners, not anything else.

I used to sell appliances a long time ago. I’d tell people not to do it because it will fry the motherboard in the Range. People would ask about it and I would say don’t use it. “One day you’ll be self cleaning your oven the next day you’ll be shopping for a new one.”

Wow 🤯

It's scary!

Appliance techs advise to never use self cleaning ovens for multiple reasons. Also not safe around pets etc. High temps are dangerous, fumes etc. Use steam in oven instead and keep clean as you use.

The instructions say you must remove all of the oven racks to run self cleaning mode, so this makes sense, there’s not supposed to be anything in there.

The carbon monoxide would apply only to gas ovens.. The rest .. likely true Think about washer driers setting themselves on fire

Why do people clean baking sheets? I spray with hot water, scrape with a spatula and wipe with paper towel. Keep the oils on to season it. Nothing will ever stick.

Have you seen laser cleaners? We clean pots and pans frequently! We also sell the machines 😉

My house is all electric but I’m terrified to use the self cleaning because I’ve heard horror stories

I did this one time and had to leave the house because I couldn't handle the smell, and I've never used it again, and that was thirty-five years ago.

Our oven got so hot n self clean mode it fried the motherboard. Appliance repair guy told us it is common and to never use it.

i get the fire hazard and damage thing, this is improper use of the self-cleaning mode and consequences can be expected. but where did the CO come from?

Ventilation, detectors, and perhaps simply scrubbing by hand..

@SaltyGoat17 It melted the electronics in our double oven… had to be replaced!

He is correct. The professionals are correct! Don’t do this! I have seen multiple oven fires (former professional rental property caretaker here) 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥 I have seen people carted to emergency from carbon monoxide poisoning 🚨 🚑

You’re supposed to leave the house then air out when you get back when you do oven cleaning lol

I turned on the “self cleaning” option on my oven once years ago…. It’s started to smell and that was my sign to turn it off, open the windows, and NEVER use it again.
