This video is about an old pay model that hasn't been in use since 2019. The amount DoorDash contributes to Dasher base pay on an order never varies based on the consumer’s tip, and Dashers always keep 100% of tips from orders on the DoorDash app.

@DoorDash In general, this is exactly why I always have cash and I tip them at the door. This way, there’s no confusion about how much I tipped for my service.

@DoorDash This is the same problem as automatic gratuity on restaurant bills. People just don’t know it’s happening because they don’t talk to their servers. It has allowed eateries to make insane $$$ while paying their employees literally prison wages for decades.

@DoorDash I guess it could be stated as "with tip fixed $10" on drivers dIsplay, with no promise or a statement of what the base pay is. Base pay is keept internally. driver and customer will not know as base pay is based on tip size, the higher the tip the lower the base pay.

@DoorDash I used to work at HQ in SF, such a scuzzy environment and would do anything for a sale. Prey on low income and black ppl, then charge them triple for food they could have got a drive thru.

@DoorDash Btw @redrobinburgers has been doing this for yrs. I’ve known staff that work there. Going back to pre covid I’ve been aware of Red Robin & other eateries doing this exact practice because it allows Red Robin to not pay employees because ur tips do so for them.
