The hardest of decisions has been made. Tomorrow afternoon, our vet, who has been with us every step of this journey, will come to our home and help Ralph cross. Despite eating copious amounts of food, he lost 500kg in 3 weeks, down from 3kg to 2.5kg. His temperature is too low as he is too weak to regulate his body and he is showing signs of muscle weakness. Although no indicator for pain (we checked, twice), he is literally withering away and prolonging this will be completely and utterly for us, not for him and you all know by now, we would never, ever do that to our kids. He is home, on top of our warm bed and he will be so spoiled the next 24 hours. He will be hugged so much and will be told we love him until the moment he slips away in our arms Simon and I are devastated this is happening a 3rd time this year and this has been my fear for many, many years. Thank you all for being there for us and keep Ralph in your thoughts tomorrow as he starts his journey over the rainbow bridge.

Whether you are dealing with a standard cover or a high-capacity unit, taking the time to properly clean, seal, and refill your rear diff will save you from major mechanical headaches down the road. ​Here is a comprehensive breakdown of the exact process shown in the video to get the job done right. ​Step 1: Remove the Housing Bolts ​Pop the truck up on a lift or secure it on jack stands. Position a drain pan underneath the differential. Grab an impact wrench and begin backing out all of the bolts securing the differential cover to the housing. ​Pro-Tip: Leave one or two bolts loosely threaded at the very top of the cover. This keeps the cover from falling completely off and splashing old gear oil everywhere once you break the factory seal. ​Step 2: Drain the Old Fluid ​Once the lower bolts are removed, use a chisel and a dead-blow hammer to gently tap the lower edge of the cover. Pry it open slightly to break the old gasket seal and let the fluid drain smoothly into your catch pan. Once the majority of the oil has drained, remove the top safety bolts and take the cover completely off. ​Step 3: Prep the Differential Housing ​With the gears exposed, stuff a clean shop rag inside the housing cavity to protect the ring and pinion from any loose debris. If you think about the silicon industry, from the mid-50s to the mid-90s, the bottleneck was actually chemical steps. It was not lithography—it was making ultrapure wafers, which require 20+ chemical steps. Then it flipped to lithography, and EUV became probably the hardest single step in semiconductor manufacturing. But there’s all these investors that, three years ago, had never done anything in hardware, had never thought about semiconductors, that are brand new and think that they’re experts. I’m not trying to say I’m an expert—there’s a lot I need to learn—but I’ve at least been paying attention to this field for a very long time. And I’m watching these people come in with what I’d call eighth-grade-level education on the industry, trying to make definitive statements around what the bottlenecks are, what’s gonna be hard. They’re basically just parroting each other. It reminds me a lot of when people were trying to assess the likelihood of reusable rockets working in 2014, or Starlink working in 2019–2020, where everyone would tell me to my face: it will not work. Or when people were saying self-driving will never work. Especially with camera-only—where Elon was a contrarian doing camera-only rather than vision plus lidar. All these things fit the same pattern of people thinking superficially when they’re brand new to a field, then having strong opinions on how things are gonna work. And I think that on TERAFAB, people are assigning way too low a probability that it will work. I personally feel confident that it will. Timeframe—there are questions—but I’ve thought through all the different steps. Almost everyone, when you talk about TERAFAB, they’re like, ‘but what about EUV?’ And EUV is something they first learned about in the last 18 months. It’s comical to me."
