The Otjiwarongo State Hospital is asking the public for assistance in identifying a male patient who has been hospitalised for nearly two months. The man, who is now in stable condition, suffers from memory loss after sustaining a head injury about four months ago. Dr. Nelson Johannes, senior medical officer at the hospital, said the patient was initially treated at Katutura State Hospital in Windhoek for two months before being transferred to Otjiwarongo. Although he occasionally speaks, his statements are unclear. He has given two different names: 'Daniel Kandafi' and 'Johnny Angeni' and is fluent in Oshiwambo. The nurses' direct action was part of a "day of action" in their ongoing strike to demand fair wages and benefits and better working conditions. Around 15,000 nurses are currently on strike — the largest in New York City history. Thursday marked day 25 of their strike.
