Benjamin, who is Head Keeper of our Ithumba Reintegration Unit, has been with us for 25 years. Rapsu was rescued 20 years ago from Meru National Park, as a starving, frightened orphan. He grew up in our care — first at the Nairobi Nursery, then at Ithumba — before reclaiming his place in the wild. But as you can see, he has never forgotten the place and the people that are home. As Benjamin says, Rapsu has been away for some time, but he comes back now and then, just in appreciation. It is an incredible testament that a bull elephant entering his prime, like Rapsu, chooses to return home and visit the people who raised him. As we are reminded time and again, family is everything to elephants — and to Rapsu, Benjamin is family. Meet Rapsu:
