“We can blame the Israelis for committing genocide in Gaza all we want. But the fact of the matter is, we committed genocide in Gaza.” With these words, Dr. Feroze Sidhwa, an American trauma surgeon who volunteered twice in Gaza over the past two years, addressed the California Democratic Convention’s Progressive Caucus, saying the United States is enabling and fueling Israel’s genocide on the besieged enclave. Sidhwa said he witnessed mass civilian killings, the destruction of hospitals, starvation, and severe injuries among children during his medical missions. He noted that US healthcare workers repeatedly warned American officials through open letters, but received no response. Citing available research, he said the death toll in Gaza could reach around 215,000 people, including tens of thousands of children.
