Dr Phil explains this very well. If she had a brain tumor that affected her brain and caused this people would be more willing to understand what happened. But because people think it’s just hormones, they belittle it.

A brain tumor would carry far more empirical weight than claiming she experienced undiagnosed psychosis for the 18 minutes it took to kill her kids, but never before or after.

The problem is there were red flags about psychosis before this happened. They were ignored or not taken seriously by everyone around her. Had those red flags been taken seriously this may not have happened. Whether it’s complacency or just not really thinking it could happen, they still didn’t do anything and have a hand in what happened

Psychosis happens but the evidence is weak in the case of Clancy. None of her therapists said she heard a commanding voice prior to the murders. She also did not report it after . The only time she mentioned it was when she called her husband and told him about it , calling from a therapist’s phone. That particular therapist was who she saw after the attorney sent her to that therapist. This whole thing was made up after the fact .

What if justice is about incentives and protecting the innocent instead of understanding the exact chemistry of a murderer’s brain?

Is justice throwing her in a prison and ignoring how she got there? Or is it putting her in an institution, which isn’t better than prison, and understanding thing outside of her failed that shouldn’t have and there are ways to stop it from happening to someone else?

@MidnightBlueVCG Good point, it is easy to say throw away the key. All persons are entitled to defense which means getting to the bottom of such heinous crime. Evidence must be weighed and decided. We as a society built on systems and law can't just say lock the door and throw away the key.

She is guilty, she knows she is guilty however, according to our law, she can be considered not guilty by reason of insanity and that is a fair call in my opinion. There is consequence, just not death penalty; rather life in mental hospital.

This is the point I'm making. She is guilty. Saying she isn't is the problem everyone has. I'm okay with life locked up somewhere, but not guilty by reason of insanity would mean that she could be out in a few years and that's unacceptable. She needs to be in an institution for life.

Lindsay Clancy and her lawyer were the only people saying she had postpartum psychosis. The doctors she seen before the event never diagnosed her with that. I have sympathy for women who actually experience postpartum psychosis but not for a psychopath who killed her kids and blamed it on mental illness

She was after. There were some major red flags that her care team should have acted on and didn’t. Which is why they are being sued. Any doctor that hears their patient that has an infant say she is afraid her kids will be taken if people can hear her thoughts and asks her doctor if he can hear her thoughts and doesn’t take more action or clue in that she could be experiencing psychosis should not be a doctor anymore.
