Swaminathan ji believed that development had to reach the village, the tribal hamlet, the fishing community and the small farmer, and that growth must protect the land, the water, the livelihoods and the future. He called this the Evergreen Revolution, to produce more without harming the earth that gives it to us. But the idea went beyond the farm. It was about combining science and social equity, environmental sustainability and the dignity of rural communities. That is exactly what the M. S. Swaminathan Research Foundation has carried forward since 1988. It has worked with rural and tribal communities, bringing better farming practices, technology, market access and new livelihood opportunities. Its work also spans nutrition, women's empowerment, biodiversity, climate resilience and digital inclusion.
