Dragonfly flight in slow motion 📹dannydogelive

Worth adding: dragonflies are quietly the best hunters in the entire animal kingdom, better than lions, sharks, and even peregrine falcons. Their success rate on prey they target sits around 95 to 97 percent, compared to roughly 25 percent for lions and 47 percent for falcons. The secret is their four wings, each one moves independently, powered by muscles that make up nearly a quarter of their body weight, letting them hover, fly backward, and change direction instantly. But the real trick is math, not speed. Instead of chasing prey directly, they calculate its future trajectory and fly to intercept it, the same logic as catching a frisbee, using a dedicated cluster of just 16 neurons connecting their brain straight to their flight muscles. They often attack from below too, sitting in the prey's blind spot the whole time.

Did you know? 🪻🦋💐

Nature's best pilot, but that's not actually slow motion. They beat their wings at nearly 30 times per second, so even at this frame rate, you're watching real-time agility that would tear any man-made drone's rotors clean off. 🪰

The muscles that allow these beautiful creatures to fly are full of splendid mitochondria!

Atreides Ornithopter (Dune)

We're looking at science and all I see is God. They are NOT mutually exclusive.

One flew into my home yesterday, I tried to video it but it darted so fast, going from room to room, beautiful iridescent green, as brief as it was I feel blessed it visited me .

How anyone could think that spontaneously evolved is beyond me.

Lovely! Dragonflies are beautiful!

Nature’s fighter jet, captured in all its glory. Watch those wings work their magic ..

Eating Dragonfly in slow motion 😄

Isn’t nature just so BEAUTIFUL? 😍

Doesn't even look to be moving in any slow motion lol. Shows how fast they beat those fairy wings

Master of flight

They are amazing just like the bumblebee !!! 🦋🌹🦋

Hmmm, just as I suspected...it flaps its wings!

Dragonflies are so cool. I love to sit out in the evening and watch them dive bomb mosquitoes.

Looks like a damselfly.

🐉🪰:"We never skip back day 'round here🏋🏽"

Dragonflies are incredible fliers, but their aerial dominance comes from hunting smaller insects relentlessly.

Helicopter Helicopter!

Love dragonflies ❤️

Scary.

🤩

Tribal!

@BatsBatsaikhan Beautiful creation by our creator.

those four independently wired wings turning math into midair murder is lowkey terrifying. 95 percent hit rate from a blind spot ambush? no wonder they own every pond they touch.

small but powerful, fly freely

AI flight control in a dragonfly...

God, the greatest engineer with the coolest designs.
