Jed York was asked if he feels like he owes it to the core of 49ers that are 30+ years old, to be active in free agency to try and “go for it” since they sat out free agency last year: “I think we always go for it. Free agency — I don’t know that it’s all cracked up to be. If there’s somebody we think is an impact player, we’ll add that person. Trent Williams was a third round trade. Not a massive decision to go make that trade, but a massive impact to our team. I don’t know what the haul of picks there were that we traded for Christian McCaffrey, but we traded a lot of picks. When those type of things come up, we will do what we can to add impact players to our roster.
