On the 15th of February 2024, the CIC Julius Sello Malema warned about the dangers of the SANDF deployment to the DRC, as our army is ill-equipped, neglected and the deployments poses a risk of life of our soldiers. The news of the death of nine SANDF soldiers in the DRC is painful and could have been avoided. We call on the deployment of South African soldiers to the DRC to be withdrawn with immediate effect!

#DRC #USA Ms. Sarah Troutman (Deputy Assistant Secretary for African Affairs in DC) is answering questions from Congresswomen and -men at the hearing on the Peace Process in the DRC and the Strategic Partnership Agreement between the DRC and Rwanda. We are surprised to hear Ms. Troutman say that they have been working with civil society on the ground, while the Catholic Church (via CENCO-ECC) and other major civil society organizations have not been included in this process from the outset. Civil society organizations from conflict-affected areas are also not involved in this process. This is the major reason why the peace deal brokered by the USA has not brought peace to eastern DRC. For the DRC Peace Agreement and the Strategic Partnership Agreement with both the USA and Rwanda to be effective and meaningful, the Congolese population at the forefront of the conflicts must be involved in all stages of the process. The government of F. Tshisekedi must respect the Constitution of the DRC and not bypass parliament. We can start there !
