The Curiosity rover broke free from the "captivity" it had found itself in just a few days earlier – on April 25th, after drilling into a rock, it literally "stuck" to the drill bit and refused to release. Instead of breaking apart during the drilling, the rock was pulled out of the surface in one piece and remained hanging on the drill bit as the robotic arm began to lift. And it wasn't just a small fragment. NASA estimates the rock was about half a meter wide, about 15 cm thick, and weighed about 13 kg. Is Static Drilling the Kata of Jiu Jitsu? I have never done Kata, so I do not have a strong opinion on its value. It does look boring to me, though. Static drilling has some value, but not as much as live drills using the Constraints-Led Approach (CLA). If someone shows me a new move or solution, I will statically drill it 2 or 3 times. Then I will try to incorporate it in some live training. Static drilling makes up less than 1% of my training now. CLA will build your grappling skills faster and is a lot more fun.

Yesterday, I had to drill out a 10-32 stainless screw that had broken off. “Hey Grok, what is the drill size for a 10-32 tap.” “It’s a #21 drill bit [and Grok decides to… elaborate]. Some machinists will step it up to a #22 drill bit in harder metals to make the tapping easier.” “Grok, you understand a #22 drill bit is smaller than a #21, right?” “You’re right, my bad, I should have checked, but my answer to your actual question is still right.” “How long would it have taken you to check your answer?” “Microseconds, but it was an offhand comment that I didn’t check with the normal safeguards.” Commercial AI is nothing more than a very smart 7 year old. A simple water spray during drilling can significantly reduce the dust, but Godrej Properties Limited doesn’t seem to care about pollution or public health. They are just pumping dust into the sky.
