Everyone’s praising the driver for “saving the kid,” but let’s be real, swerving into a parked car instead of holding course was the worst choice. That child ran a red light. Actions like that should have consequences. By avoiding impact, the driver not only risked their own life but also reinforced reckless behavior. Next time, that kid might not just endanger himself, he might cost someone else their life. Sometimes the heroic choice just enables stupidity.

This is why when I drive in dense or semi-dense urban areas I always slow down at intersections even if there’s a green light as a defensive driving maneuver. I’m always paranoid that the average person walking/cycling/scootering in cities may not obey the traffic and walking lights, and this video is a perfect example of that. It’s also why I prefer to use public transportation for getting around in cities rather than driving. Driving in suburbs and rural areas is fine but driving in dense or semi-dense areas with lots of pedestrians is risky, especially when they aren’t smart enough to follow common sense rules for their safety. It’s easier to use public transportation in high density areas but if you need to drive then practice extreme defensive driving in those areas. Always assume you’re the only person on the road who understands traffic laws and uses turn signals, and drive accordingly (defensively) and it helps reduce the chance of issues.
