The police officer was sent to the hospital for a head injury and remains in serious condition. 28-year-old Jamaysha Butler could be seen trying to flee the scene when the Beaumont, Texas officer tried stopping her. Police were initially called to the location due to an early morning disturbance involving a group of people. The officer fell off the side of the car and banged his head on the pavement. When the officer handcuffed 22-year-old Melissa Bell, Butler, who was also going to be arrested, bolted for the car. The officer tried stopping her but sadly fell from the car. Butler was charged with intoxication, assault, and evading detention. Bell is facing charges including public intoxication, resisting arrest, interference with public duties, and assault on a peace officer. The officer is in stable but serious condition.

He let the driver, 29-year-old Tyrik L. Braxton of Columbia, Maryland, get back in to grab his belongings. Braxton started the car and tried to leave. Police say he accelerated, struck Thomas, and forced him onto the hood. Braxton stopped, reversed, then hit the gas again while the officer hung onto the windshield wipers. Thomas then fired three times. Braxton was taken to a hospital in critical condition.

Shasta Police Department and Weed Police Department released body cam footage showing the incident that happened on March 21, 2026, during a traffic stop on Interstate 5 near the north Weed off-ramp. An officer pulled over a car traveling northbound at the north Weed off-ramp for multiple violations, including excessive window tint and an unsafe lane change. The officer called for help with a K-9 drug sniff, and a Mt. Shasta police officer responded to assist. During the search, the Weed officer found a large amount of suspected methamphetamine hidden in a stereo speaker box. As the officer approached the man, who was sitting in front of the patrol car, the man pulled out a gun from his waist and pointed it at the officer. The officer then shot the man. Medical help was provided at the scene, and the man was taken to Dignity Mt. Shasta for treatment, where he later died from his injuries. One officer suffered minor injuries from a fall during the incident
