shotguns > rifles for this

do you see the speed that thing is on

@MultigunFun @grok inform this plebian of the average speed of clays thrown in Olympic bunker and then compare them with the speeds of FPV drones used in the current Ukraine conflict. Which one is generally faster?

Olympic bunker (ISSF Trap) clays average about 62-63 mph (100 km/h) at exit, ranging up to ~68 mph to cover 76 m. Typical FPV attack drones in Ukraine fly 37-50 mph (60-80 km/h) loaded, max around 75 mph (120 km/h). Specialized interceptors can exceed 200 mph, but most combat ones do not. Clays are generally faster.

Do people who practice sporting clays and other clay shooting generally practice shooting targets that have an initially unpredictable and variable flight path (assuming the shooter is presented with totally novel and unknown clay courses and not revisiting a course previously shot)?

Yes, especially in sporting clays. Courses are frequently changed and unique, with targets launched at widely varying angles, speeds, heights, and trajectories to simulate game. On novel stations, the first shooter typically views show pairs to observe the path before scoring, but the overall variety still demands adapting to new presentations each time. Trap adds some angle randomization; skeet is more fixed and predictable. Many intentionally skip previews in practice for greater unpredictability.

@Archivedtactic @MultigunFun Although not a one to one activity, would an experienced clays shooter have possibly better success in shooting down a FPV drone if they were aware that there was a FPV threat?

Yes. Clay shooting trains precise tracking, leading, and adapting to erratic aerial targets at speeds matching many FPVs. Militaries now use skeet and sporting clays specifically to prepare troops for shotgun drone defense, with experienced shooters helping develop those tactics. Awareness of the threat multiplies the edge.

Arent shotguns a thing?

Are you serious

Little KSG might do the trick. I don’t know. Been out of the game since 94 but maybe an ar platform 12 gauge even?

You have the wrong tool!

What kinda light tool you need?

@gunjunky Why would you use a rifle for drone defense over a shotgun?

@gunjunky I mean, rifles are mostly used in combat because of their long range capabilities, so it’s just realistic that you won’t be needing shotgun in an open field where there’s enemies and enemy drones

@BlacksbacktoAfr @gunjunky But you do need a shotgun, for the drones. Same way a door breacher needs a shotgun. Same way a trench needs a shotgun.

@Archivedtactic @gunjunky Exactly

@CLIFFY__B @Archivedtactic @gunjunky With the amount of equipment the frontline guys carry especially drgs it simply isn’t viable for most to carry a second guns and its ammo. I’ve seen Russian drgs struggling to climb through windows because of the weight of all their gear.

@CLIFFY__B @Archivedtactic @gunjunky Trench gun should be number one priority

This is dumb AF

Welcome to modern warfare

Nah stopping to engage the drone is pointless. He should be running to the treeline

@Archivedtactic "Just outrun a drone"

@Archivedtactic That's literally your only shot. Get to the wood line where you have cover. What this dude is doing is dumb. Ask me how I know

At least go full auto and give yourself half a chance 😂 few more RPM might help too

Ngl

everybody is gansta until you see the other 2 drones in the air. Like spanish said about the comanche arrows, you can always dodge the first one, iths the other 2 in the air at the same time that gets you

USE A SHOT GUN!!!!!!!!!!!1

💀

Semi 12ga with a drum

Did you not watch any of Russia's invasion of Ukraine?? there is no such thing as "Drone Defense" my guy

easier if u shoot bullets

Not that easy too

prob not, try a shotgun. 🤷♀️

bro, did you forget to wind your mag? *zik* *zik* *zik* *zik*

Easier said than done 💀

Bro died 10 times

So much shit talking from guys saying you just need a shotgun. Even if you’re the best of the best shooting ducks, clays or anything else flying. Nothing moves like one of these. Prove you can hit one and video it.

Because you need DRAGON BREATH!

This is not a human’s game anymore. The future is human commanded bit AI-managed auto shotgun-based AA solutions. Humans don’t have the reflexes, but humans can flip the switch for “weapons hot” protection mode, kind of like a ship’s phalanx cannon against missiles.

All you shotgun commenters in the comments are insane. Do you have any idea how impractical it is to have every solider "just carry a shotgun?" Do they ditch their normal rifle combat loadouts? Are they carrying an extra auto shotty with 5-8 shots? Think for 2 seconds please.

At the beginning of the Russia/Ukraine conflict, you could have a good shoot’n farm boy with a shotgun take out a drone, like he was pheasant hunting. But with the advancements in just a few years, there is not a fucking way that you can hit a drone spinning around you at 60 to to 110 miles an hour. I would speculate, at some point there will be so much damage, to so many people, on all sides, that there will be an agreement that will make drones, robots, and autonomous warfare illegal. In the same way that we have international agreements against chemical warfare.

Try defending against 5 Million - 140 + IQ Chinese S.T.E.M graduates a year.

"I'd just shoot it..." - from the office chair in front of the PC. Yea, Scooter, you go do that... Glad I'm not a deployed ground pounder these days. Sucks!

Gotta lead like they're ducks on steroids with jet packs

you think that’s crazy? Check out this page @wilendhornets

Эх, американцы...

Nope, it definitely is as hard as I think. Also, nightmare fuel for anyone that has to be on the battlefield in the future with continued development of UASs. I've used deployable net guns against those types of drones, very effective, but blast radius could still be an issue.

I keep telling people if they think they can shoot down a drone, imagine trying to shoot a 150mph curve ball.

Could we be reaching a point where rifles are the secondary weapon of a soldier, or am I overthinking it? I am imagining troops carrying several drones instead of magazines and grenades.

You need one of these:

use a jammer ...

needs some shotgun shooting training

Not if you have a short barrel shotgun as a backup👍

1 - is that an airsoft? 2 - no shit, you’re using a rifle
