Dublin’s iconic Poolbeg chimneys are getting a fresh look. Starting next month, a specialised team will begin painting the landmark stacks in their classic red and white. The multi-million euro project is already under way and expected to wrap up next year. #Poolbegchimneys

In other countries such chimneys are seen as a stain on the landscape and a reminder of dirty industrial bygone eras. They would remind you of the grim far east in Russia yet are celebrated here, suppose that's level we're at when it comes to architecture here!

What a waste of money. Pull them down, they're an obsolete eyesore. They're not iconic. No tourist has ever come to Dublin to see the chimneys. It's ludicrous that we are inventing nostalgia for these concrete tubes that are only around 50 years old. We're not a serious country at all.

An eye sore is what they are!

Multi million for a lick of paint. How am I not surprised?

beautiful. make it a tourist attraction. great to see it's not getting painted in rainbow colours for a change.

how are these old eye sores, spoiling the sea view iconic? 🤯🤦🏻♀️

It’s disgraceful that it’s not going to be painted in a trans flag.

Millions... seems excessive

@SamanthaLibreri As a proud Dub, and someone who admires nice architecture, I ❤️🤍them!
