I've never understood why, particularly in the US, packages are left on stairs or have to be hidden behind trees or plant pots. Nobody has the right to take what does not belong to them, but we all know the mucked up world we live in. Here in Sweden, packages are sent to a nearby pick-up point, you get an SMS and then go to collect upon producing some ID. In the case of Amazon, it's the same, although you can ALSO choose to have them delivered at your doorstep. At least in my town I've never lost any packages to thieves.
