[UNDER INVESTIGATION] An investigation is underway regarding an incident (with video circulated on various social media platforms) whereby a SAPS Constable allegedly assaulted a member of the public. The incident is said to have occurred on 02 April 2026, at the Volksrust Police Station. It is worth noting that in light of the serious allegation, the SAPS has instituted an internal investigation to thoroughly examine the circumstances surrounding the incident. In addition to the internal investigation, a criminal investigation is also underway to ensure all aspects of this matter are addressed transparently. The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) has been notified of the incident and it is expected that a parallel investigation will be conducted by this Directorate.

The suspect, whose photo and description are included below, entered the Walgreens and demanded property from an employee while armed with a machete. After obtaining stolen property, the suspect left the scene in a dark-colored four door sedan, possibly a Nissan Altima. Anyone with any information should contact APD's Robbery unit at 512-974-5092.
