Today, we recognized the journey of Kevin Eriksen, who has been with the Yankees since 2021. Kevin was born with cerebral palsy and has also battled with ulcerative colitis. While he rarely used a wheelchair as a child, when Kevin was hospitalized in November 2020 with a severe flare-up of his ulcerative colitis, a lack of activity as well as his medication exacerbated each other, leading him to double his weight and become almost entirely reliant on his wheelchair. On the night of Jan. 28, 2024, Kevin committed to making a change, going for a 0.2 mile walk in the freezing cold. Every day from that point — rain, shine, snow or heat, he made sure to go for a walk, increasing the length of his walk by 0.2 miles approximately every month. Over the last year, Kevin has covered more than 500 miles and dropped approximately 70 lbs. Kevin celebrated the 1-year anniversary of his journey by doing his daily walk navigating the Yankee Stadium 100 Level Concourse and finishing on the warning track of the field. His fellow Yankee colleagues, friends, and family were excited and proud to cheer on Kevin as we congratulated him on his remarkable accomplishment!

The former two-way showcased a high 80s - low 90s sinker from a sidearm slot with plenty of run and a sweeping slider that limited hitters to an average of 68.2 mph EV and a 0.59 xFIP (per Anthony Marotta as of 7/19). It's a plus pitch that was used more than the sinker and acts as his best offering. He also mixed in a splitter with some sink to get miss in and out of the zone. He appeared in 14 games for the Whitecaps on the Cape, limiting hard contact and base-runners with a 1.18 WHIP, 23 K/2 BB in 22 IP. Ray's stuff played well in the lower half of the zone but was susceptible to the long ball at times. Perhaps adding a four-seam FB that could get some chase at the top of the zone could help his overall profile. As of 7/23, Ray was 100th percentile in hard-hit % and 93rd percentile in opponent average exit speed (per Anthony Marotta). Ray made significant progress in his control and as a result, dropped his 4.9 BB/9 in 44 IP last spring to just 0.8 BB/9 in 22 IP this summer in the CCBL. Today we've spoken to Tommy and the latest information is as follows; He's currently safe in the segregated wing he served his last sentence in, however the Governor of Belmarsh high security prison has told him he must move "for monetary reasons" ASAP. Either into the main prison system, which comes at a huge security risk, as the prison is filled with the worst jihadis the country has. Or go "down the block", which is a small cell with no bed, tv or anything, which also leaves him at risk, psychologically and physically, as the block has inmate cleaners etc. The same prison is holding the Southport child killer, does this monster deserve better privileges than Tommy, who is in there for mere civil offences, not criminal?! He's also been told any visits he has, even with family, must be closed, ie behind a screen, treating him like Hannibal lector, for showing a film!

A 19-year-old woman was allegedly stabbed to death by her father during a counselling session in Uttar Pradesh's Banda district after she insisted on living with a man she had married against her family's wishes, police said. The shocking incident took place in the Badousa police station area on Thursday and has triggered widespread outrage across the district. According to police, the woman had been in a relationship with a young man from her neighbourhood. On May 18, she left home with him, prompting her family to file a complaint. A case was subsequently registered and police launched a search operation to trace her. Banda Superintendent of Police Palash Bansal said the woman was found safe on June 12 and brought back as part of the legal process. Her parents were informed and were called for discussions and counselling with police officials. During the interaction, the woman reportedly maintained that she wanted to stay with her husband. Police said she had married the man after leaving home and was unwilling to return to her family despite repeated attempts by relatives and officials to persuade her otherwise. According to investigators, tensions escalated during the counselling session when her father suddenly attacked her with a sharp-edged weapon, stabbing her in the abdomen. The injured woman was rushed to the Atarra Community Health Centre and later referred to a medical college for advanced treatment. However, doctors declared her dead. SP Bansal said that based on a complaint lodged by the victim's mother, police registered a murder case against the woman's father. The accused has been taken into custody and the weapon used in the crime has been recovered. "The woman had been safely recovered and her family was informed. During counselling and discussions with her parents, her father attacked her with a sharp weapon. A case has been registered and the accused has been detained. Further legal proceedings are underway," the SP said. Police have sent the body for post-mortem examination and initiated further investigation into the case. The incident has drawn attention across Banda, with many describing it as a suspected case of honour killing. However, police have so far registered the case as murder and said further investigation will determine all circumstances leading to the killing.

INF Gavin Kilen (Tennessee Baseball) will be a key piece within a loaded Tennessee lineup this season. Earned the starting 2B job as a Freshman and contributed, but broke out last spring to the tune of a .330/.361/.591 slash line with 23 2B, 3 3B, 9 HR and 41 RBIs. Kilen is slightly undersized and has an average build at 5'11 and 180-lbs. Some room to fill out and add ~10 pounds or so. Relaxed, slightly crouched stance in the box with a medium high handset. Minimal load in which his hands drift slightly, leg lift leads into a small stride. Short, compact swing and takes a direct path to contact. Above-average hand speed, it's an operation that's tailored towards spraying line drives all over the yard. Kilen is a hit-over-power profile with an aggressive approach in the box. He has plus bat-to-ball skills and his feel for the barrel is evident. Last spring, Kilen worked a 93% IZ contact rate, including 95% against FB. His aggressive approach and somewhat free-swinger mentality does lead to some chase up against FB and secondaries down, but it hasn't been a hindrance to his production. Kilen pounces on pitches in the zone and steps in the box ready to hit. Would give his hit tool a 55. It's more gap power than it is over the fence power for Kilen, but he did tap into some more impact last season. Has shown the ability to work from gap-to-gap. Kilen was Louisville's every day SS last spring, but he'll slide over to 2B this season for Tennessee. I actually think that's where he profiles best defensively as a professional, where he has an average arm with some range. After seeing him at SS for a couple of summers, his actions and clock translate better at 2B. Kilen is a day 1 type this July with top-55 overall upside.
