They're named degenerative diseases, by those who study it, for a reason. If we taxed the ultra rich way more there'd be more available to help the vulnerable. I'd argue that is the government's job.

Trust me getting asked "it's not going to get better is it?" is the worst thing I've ever been asked so casually (backed by medical evidence also).

What utter bollocks. My son has cerebral Palsy and epilepsy, and has had it since birth; he isn't going to get better, only worse. Inspection is there for one reason, and that's to frighten carers and the disabled.PIP helps the disabled into work; it's a gain for the taxpayer.

Thanks for shining a light on this Saul. Disabled people need all the help we can get because after so much hate speech and misinformation from the government many disabled people are paralysed by fear. We desperately need big accounts to stand with us.

My wife lost her leg in a car crash, 2011 (not her fault). Her PIP payment was reviewed annually up until 2 years ago when it was stopped as she was deemed no longer eligible. I can confirm that her leg had not grown back at that stage, nor has it done so since.

People with Parkinson’s or MS , Cancer , ADHD etc , never get better , Their families spend all their time looking after them . Majority don’t get any help after being 65 saving the gov billions. So assessment is so unnecessary, they know what diseases claimants have ….

She should have pointed out that some conditions , we know, can not improve. Assessing them is a waste of tax payers money. You know, I’m surprised at Kate, given what she’s been through. You think she’d know better

Exactly this. What a waste of time and money when some people do have degenerative conditions that will never improve. All it does is induce stress- which often worsens conditions.

She should have pushed back more. There are diseases they assess that they know will never improve. Just take them out of this process.

they would never say this stuff about pensions! and the research out of the DWP, the Work Foundation and others all show that cutting welfare doesn't increase employment rates for disabled people. That's a matter of recruitment, management, HR and company culture.

People with autism, so disabling they can't live alone, have to be reassessed. It's ridiculous.

Obviously, nobody does 'need' to reassess those with lifelong conditions....unless, of course, the while exercise is centered around the intention of enacting abuse and intimidation, which I suggest it is. That's the kind of psychotic thing the establishment love to do.

I hope nobody feels grateful that the media decided to include this very watered-down, measly defence of the disabled. It's only here to present the establishment narrative with a little bit of sugar in the hopes people just keep swallowing it whole, not thinking for themselves.

Absolutely, these reassessments are a waste of time and money… as well as extremely stressful for the people involved!

Why? Because it's an industry so the private sector assessors can ear their money. It's a racket.

Every assessment i help someone to fill out this form. Her learning disability etc is not going to get "better". Waste of money and very stressful all round. #PIP

I remember when Atos did the assessments and there was cases of lifts not working in some places And if you couldnt make it up stairs they stopped your benefit for non attendance And if you could they stopped it as you could climb the stairs Fraud under pip is very tiny

My severely disabled sister, bedridden, need hoisting to get in to shower. Assessor sat next to her bed asked how far can you walk? “I can’t walk!” Can you walk to the kitchen? “No I can’t walk at all!” Several more questions about walking distances later, she accepted it 😡

Short answer: it's performative cruelty. Long answer: we live in a land ruled by sociopaths who see the disabled as a bloodsport and attack them to appease the rabid right-wing tabloid readers.

@benn_elisbenn Scotland replaced PIP with Adult Disability Payment 18 months go and the first thing the Sc Gov did was abolish the repeated reapplications for those with lifelong conditions. It’s a choice by WM. Ask yourself why.

Precisely ! Husband had spinal injury and cannot walk unaided. That’s never getting better. He works FT but the very small PIP award pays for private physio. It’s inhumane to keep making him be reassessed 😡

From my brief dealings the social services are totally incompetent,only know a tick box response have no common sense,the whole department needs an overhaul from the very top to the bottom. How much money they waste because of their antiquated work practices must be huge
