During a severe Arizona monsoon, In-N-Out Burger locations experience a massive influx of customers seeking shelter from the extreme weather and flooding. These sudden crowds often result in cramped dining rooms, prolonged wait times, and occasionally chaotic scenes, such as viral physical altercations breaking out between stressed patrons.

A senior friend of mine has this passion of sharing a blog with many of us each year, especially tracking the monsoon in the coastal regions of Karnataka. This year, the below was his post. It was heartbreaking 💔💔💔 "Hello my friend: Just back from the coast. I have never experienced such a bleak monsoon. We have not even received a fifth of the rainfall expected during the first 40-day monsoon period. The El Nino effect is triggering extreme weather events worldwide. We have had 50km winds for many days(bringing down trees of all shapes and sizes), but the rainfall is severely suppressed. Very choppy ocean. A huge Jamun tree fell onto our home clipping the rear roof. Luckily a coconut tree standing tall broke the fall and averted a major disaster. We hardly see the sun during this part of the monsoon but every single day in July, we had sunshine 🌞 followed gloomy skies. At the same, it is paradoxical that Mumbai is getting hammered by record breaking rainfall and flooding. Scientists say moisture laden winds from the Arabian see is converging with the low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal. City's coastal geography forces weather systems to hit the Western Ghats and dump huge amounts rain in concertrated bursts. This phenomenon that defies El Nino is perplexing. This will adversely affect agriculture and crop productivity in coastal Karnataka. We will face drought conditions well before the summer sets in. I can already imagine we are going to have some really challenging times." Karnataka has been massively affected by the bad monsoon.

Some of my storyboards from the opening of The Wild Robot. I liked the idea of the first shot in the film (after the pull-out from her eye) being Roz in a fetal position for "The Robot Hatches." But the idea got lost as it went through the production pipeline. I ended up using some stock photography and videos for some of the water in this scene. I think because the environment was such a character for us in these opening scenes. The photography seemed to help me to sell the contrast between Roz and the wilderness.

⚡️🇵🇸JUST IN: Government Media Office in Gaza: The number of deaths due to extreme cold in forced displacement camps has risen to 21 martyrs since the start of the genocide, and we warn of catastrophic repercussions of the upcoming low-pressure systems. We warn of the catastrophic humanitarian repercussions resulting from the waves of extreme cold hitting the Gaza Strip, in light of the continued genocide and the suffocating siege, and the widespread destruction of homes and infrastructure it has left behind, as well as the forced displacement of more than one and a half million Palestinians to displacement camps that lack the minimum requirements for human life. According to documented field data, the number of deaths as a result of extreme cold since the beginning of the genocide until today, Sunday, January 11, 2026, has risen to 21 martyrs, all of whom were displaced persons from forced shelter camps, including 18 children, in a dangerous indicator of the scale of the humanitarian disaster threatening the lives of the most vulnerable groups. We also record that the number of deaths due to extreme cold since the beginning of the current winter season has reached 4 deaths, in light of the absence of heating means, the lack of safe shelter, the shortage of blankets and winter clothing, and the continued prevention of the entry of sufficient humanitarian aid. We strongly warn of the repercussions of the upcoming low-pressure system and subsequent weather systems, and the accompanying frost waves and extreme cold during the coming days, which portend an increase in the number of victims, especially among children, the sick, and the elderly, if this catastrophic humanitarian reality continues without urgent intervention. We hold the "israeli" occupation fully and directly responsible for these crimes and deadly outcomes, as they are an extension of the policies of slow killing, starvation, and displacement. We demand the international community, the United Nations, and humanitarian and human rights organizations to take immediate and urgent action to provide safe shelter centers, allow the entry of heating and relief supplies without restrictions, and save the remaining lives before it is too late. 🇨🇳 The Chinese are stuck in massive traffic jams as the country kicks off a long holiday Millions of people set out on trips to mark the start of the extended break for China’s National Day and the “Golden Week” holiday, running from October 1 to 8, 2025. 😩 Drivers say the traffic jams these days are comparable to — and in some places even worse than — the congestion during Chinese New Year.

How are insecure attachments repaired? This week I’ve been exploring the concept of attachment (a deep emotional bond created between parents and their children during the earliest months and years of life). In doing so I’ve focused primarily on the goal of secure attachment. But not all attachments begin securely. Which begs a pair of questions: What causes insecure attachments and how can they be strengthened? While anxious and disorganized attachment types can certainly result from erratic parenting, the toxic stress created by unsafe environments, and/or abuse and neglect, it’s important to keep in mind that early relational challenges occur on a broad spectrum of severity and sometimes aren’t the result of any parental shortcoming at all. In fact, some root causes may not even be within parental control. Children born extremely prematurely, for example, may spend weeks or months in a neonatal intensive care unit. While essential to their survival, the situation can limit early interaction with even the most attentive and well equipped parents. What else might impact attachment quality? The list is likely a long one. Severe postpartum depression, a prolonged military deployment… anything that might present a barrier to strong relational health between a parent and child. In complex (traumatic) cases of disorganized attachment, families may require a combination of specialized infant mental health services, therapy, and other professional supports. But in many cases the solution is as simple as a heaping dose of what was missing in the first place: predictably warm and responsive interactions. Children are remarkably resilient - and while it may take time to create updated patterns of interaction and establish them as the “new normal,” insecure attachments can often become secure with focused effort. So take heart. And watch as secure attachment begins to take hold. —— This happy (and securely attached!) duo was shared to IG by tiny.charmzz.

Have you ever seen something like this? Check out this visualization of water flowing through rivers in the Lower Mississippi Valley as thunderstorms meandered through the region over the last 24 hours. The Streamflow products included with the MRMS suite from NOAA National Severe Storms Laboratory provide a one-of-a-kind way to visualize the evolution of heavy rain and thunderstorms. Streamflow - or how much and how fast water is flowing down rivers - is represented in units of volume per second and is available from 3 different water balance models: CREST, SAC-SMA, and Hydrophobic. NWS Meteorologists use these products to monitor the risk of flash flooding. You can access the full suite of FLASH products from MRMS on WeatherFront!

The Abyss (1989) is remembered not only for its groundbreaking underwater cinematography, but also for one of the most punishing shoots in film history. Much of the principal photography took place in a massive water tank at a decommissioned nuclear facility in South Carolina, where the cast and crew spent countless hours submerged. The conditions were so extreme that some crew members reportedly suffered physical side effects from prolonged exposure, including fingernail loss, while actor Ed Harris was said to be so exhausted that he would cry in his car after filming each day. Against that backdrop of constant strain and difficulty, even small on-set accidents took on a different meaning. When a cameraman accidentally wiped the lens during a shot, James Cameron chose to leave the moment in the final film rather than reshoot it. In a production already defined by imperfection and endurance, the flaw was seen less as a mistake and more as another layer of raw texture within an already grueling, hard-won visual record.

A South Asian Muslim man was violently attacked and injured shortly after arriving at the Islamic Cultural Center of New York on April 19 in Manhattan, the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) says. “The incident began as a minor vehicle collision but quickly escalated into a severe physical assault. The victim was allegedly placed in a chokehold, slammed to the ground, struck multiple times, and ultimately hit and dragged by the assailant’s vehicle for approximately half a city block,” CAIR said in a statement. The group shared footage of the attack on May 13 and accused the NYPD of failing to adequately investigate the assault. Despite video evidence, it reportedly took four days for police to assign a detective, and the alleged assailant has not yet been investigated, CAIR claims. “Almost a month has passed since this violent incident took place. The victim is rightfully seeking action from the police and has gone above and beyond to secure evidence. It’s frustrating to experience indifference from the police,” CAIR-NY Executive Director Afaf Nasher said

🌊🌧 #MumbaiRains #floods: Why was flooding so severe in #Vasai, #Virar & #Nalasopara this time? 🌧️ The rainfall was exceptional across the entire region. Both Vasai-Virar and its surrounding river catchments witnessed very heavy to extremely heavy rains. However, the widespread flooding wasn't caused by rainfall over Vasai-Virar alone, it was the result of multiple factors occurring simultaneously, with enormous upstream river discharge, tidal locking and urban drainage systems struggling to cope with such unprecedented volumes of water. The Ulhas River, originating near Lonavala, received extraordinary inflows after its upper catchment recorded around 1569 mm of rainfall in just 3 days. Torrential rain across the Ulhas Valley, Pune Ghats and Thane interiors sent enormous volumes of water into Vasai Creek.🌊🏞 At the same time, intense rainfall over the Nashik Ghats ⛰️, Igatpuri, Trimbakeshwar, Shahapur and Palghar swelled the Vaitarna River, which drains into the sea just north of Virar. The Tungareshwar ranges ⛰️ also received torrential rain, with numerous streams and nallas adding further runoff into the Vasai-Virar drainage network. Meanwhile, Vasai, Virar and Nalasopara themselves were experiencing torrential rainfall of about 600-700mm in last 3 days, generating massive local runoff. The region was effectively jammed from both sides. Massive upstream river discharge coincided with high tides 🌊, also during Monsoon the seas remain already rough slowing the outflow into the Arabian Sea and creating a backwater effect that prevented creeks and stormwater drains from emptying efficiently. Such an extraordinary volume of water would have stressed any drainage system. However, rapid urbanisation, shrinking wetlands and mangroves, encroachment of natural drainage channels and increasing concretisation have significantly reduced the region's natural capacity to store and drain floodwater, making the impacts even more severe. This event was a classic example of record-breaking rainfall across multiple river basins, intense local rain, tidal locking and urban infrastructure struggling to cope with an unprecedented volume of water. Today, inflows into the river systems 🌊 remain high, and several areas may continue to experience waterlogging and flooding. However, with rainfall expected to gradually reduce from now, river levels should slowly begin to recede as the excess water drains into the sea. Even so, the impacts of this exceptional rainfall event are likely to persist for the next few days, especially in low-lying areas, until the entire drainage system returns to normal. 🌧️ #KokanRains #PalgharRains #ThaneRains Video credits: varun mundra & Vasai Virar Update

In the Kimberley region of Western Australia, Aboriginal oral stories describe powerful beings known as the Wandjina. These beings are central to the groups such as the Worrorra, the Ngarinyin, and the Wunambal. According to their oral histories, the Wandjina came from the sky during the Dreaming, shaping the land, creating rivers, mountains, and laws that governed human life. They are associated with clouds, rain, and storms, and are understood as ongoing spiritual forces tied to weather and seasonal cycles. Their presence is preserved in distinctive rock art figures, typically shown with large, round heads, dark eyes, and no mouths, surrounded by halo patterns that are often interpreted as clouds or lightning. The absence of a mouth in Wandjina is not accidental. In traditional belief, if the Wandjina were given mouths, their power could become overwhelming, potentially unleashing endless rain and flooding. These beings are said to have laid down moral and social laws, instructing people on how to live, hunt, and maintain balance with the land. After completing their work, the Wandjina did not simply leave. They are believed to have entered the rock formations themselves, where they remain present and active. The paintings are renewed by Indigenous people, not as art, but as a continuation of a living relationship with these ancestral forces.

Some of my colleagues and friends, especially from Mumbai and southern parts of India, ask me why I honk so frequently while overtaking or at crossroads The driving style in the northern parts of India, especially in Uttar Pradesh, is unique. They value their convenience over their lives, often neglecting to look around before switching lanes or making turns. They believe that if someone is crossing, they’ll simply honk to let them know. This mentality contributes to the high fatality rate on highways in Uttar Pradesh After driving on these roads for around 14 years, I’ve developed the habit of honking while passing trucks and buses, ensuring a margin of braking distance for sudden maneuvers by riders spitting paan, cattle appearing out of nowhere, people crossing without looking and of course, wrong-way driving Notice the timestamps between the two clips - such incidents occurred twice in five minutes during a 6 hour drive. If I were to compile all these instances, it would be like watching a short movie Though the speed may appear slow in the video, it was mostly around 100 km/hr. However, I had to brake heavily, hence the frustration with prolonged honking Some people might comment, ‘You shouldn’t overtake from the left.’ However, there’s another unsaid rule here - most trucks drive on the rightmost lane.

Over the past few days, I have received a number of WhatsApp messages from Ghanaians currently in Cambodia, claiming they are stranded and living in extremely difficult conditions. Some say they are being pursued during immigration crackdowns, while others describe having no money, no shelter, limited access to food, and no means of returning home. The messages paint a troubling picture of desperation, fear, and uncertainty. One message that stood out was from a Ghanaian named Felix, who pleaded for help and attention to what he describes as a growing humanitarian situation involving Ghanaians and other Africans in Cambodia. According to him, many simply want assistance to return home safely to their families. I am still gathering information and seeking verification of the claims being made. However, the volume and consistency of these messages suggest a story that deserves attention. If Ghanaian authorities, diplomatic missions, or anyone with credible information on the situation is aware of what is happening, this may be the time to engage and provide clarity.

Louis Wain's drawings of cats as his Schizophrenia worsened. Louis Wain, an English artist born in 1860, gained fame for his illustrations of cats portrayed with human characteristics. During his later years, Wain experienced the onset of schizophrenia, a mental disorder believed by psychiatrists of that time to be triggered by toxoplasmosis, a parasitic infection commonly associated with cats. Consequently, he was admitted to a mental hospital in 1924 and subsequently transferred to Napsbury Hospital in St Albans in 1930. It was during this period that Wain's artistic style underwent a profound transformation. Despite his increasing delusions, he continued to depict cats in his paintings, with psychiatrists attributing the abstract patterns in his artwork as indicative of his schizophrenia. For some time, there has been speculation regarding a connection between mental disorders and creativity. The creative process often involves divergent thinking, characterized by free-flowing, spontaneous, and multi-faceted ideation. One example of such a connection is the observation that both individuals with schizophrenia and highly creative individuals exhibit lower levels of dopamine receptors. This leads to reduced filtration of information in the brain, allowing for the generation of novel ideas and solutions in creative individuals, while potentially giving rise to abnormal thought patterns in those with schizophrenia. Moreover, large-scale population studies have validated the association between mental illness and creative professions, indicating that individuals working in creative fields are more likely to seek treatment for mental illnesses. Additionally, a study published in the British Journal of Psychiatry found a significant link between the artistic profession and schizophrenia. Wain's abstract artwork is particularly intriguing due to its psychedelic, vibrant, intricate, and occasionally fractal patterns. This suggests the possibility of a shared cognitive process underlying the psychedelic experience, schizophrenia, and creative thinking.

A dramatic moment unfolds along the riverbank as a powerful Plains Zebra turns aggressive toward a vulnerable Wildebeest Calf. In the wild, survival often brings unexpected and brutal encounters. As the young calf struggles near the water’s edge, the zebra suddenly lashes out with incredible force. Using its strong hind legs, the zebra delivers a series of powerful kicks, striking the small calf and knocking it to the ground. Although zebras are primarily herbivores, they can be extremely territorial and defensive—especially around water sources where many animals gather. In these crowded areas, tension between species can escalate quickly. The zebra may perceive the calf as an intrusion or react instinctively to protect its space. The Wildebeest calf, still inexperienced and vulnerable, stands little chance against the zebra’s muscular build and sharp hooves. Each kick from the zebra is powerful enough to injure or even kill. Scenes like this remind us that life in the African wilderness is not only about predators and prey. Competition, instinct, and survival pressures can sometimes drive even plant-eating animals to extreme aggression. It is a stark and raw example of the unpredictable reality of life in the wild—where every moment can turn into a fight for survival. 🦓🌍
