This footage captures the December 29, 2024 crash of Jeju Air Flight 2216, a Boeing 737-800, at Muan International Airport in South Korea. The domestic flight departed from Jeju International Airport and was bound for Muan International Airport. During the initial approach to Muan, the aircraft suffered a dual bird strike, resulting in an engine flameout and thrust loss. The crew declared a mayday and initiated a go-around. During the subsequent emergency landing attempt, the landing gear failed to deploy, forcing the pilots to attempt a belly landing. The aircraft touched down far past the normal touchdown zone. Skidding down the runway on its engine nacelles at high speed, the aircraft overshot the runway boundary, collided with a concrete earth berm supporting the Instrument Landing System (ILS) structure, and broke apart in a massive fireball. Of the 181 people on board, 179 were killed, and two crew members survived with critical injuries.

While on a visual approach to the runway, the engine lost power and could not be restarted. The flight instructor declared an emergency and executed a forced landing to a park area about 1 mile north of the runway, where the airplane struck the ground and a perimeter fence. The aircraft sustained substantial damage. No injuries were reported. Postaccident examination revealed a loose “B” nut on the fuel line between the fuel injector and fuel manifold, allowing fuel to leak and air to enter the system. The engine had been installed recently and had flown about 2.7 hours since installation. The NTSB determined the probable cause was the failure of maintenance personnel to properly torque the fuel line “B” nut, which resulted in a total loss of engine power. 📸 runthisshitt

Piper PA 28 student pilot accident in Puerto Rico on July 21 2025. This was her second solo ever. She tried a soft field takeoff and rotated too early then climbed out of ground effect with an extreme nose high attitude. The airplane stalled left and went into a parking lot. She walked away without injuries. The NTSB report says no mechanical issues. The cause was excessive pitch and loss of control. Good reminder for all student pilots. According to the Osaka Aviation Bureau around 5:30 p.m. on the 26th, a small aircraft at Yao Airport in Yao City, Osaka, overran during landing and broke through a perimeter fence. There were four people on board the aircraft and all were able to walk away without any injuries. According to the management group of hospitals and clinics that own the aircraft, it took off from Narita Airport with the pilot, a doctor, and two others on board.

WHY MD-11 IS ONE OF THE MOST UNFORGIVING JETS TO LAND The NTSB identified the MD-11’s high landing speed as a major factor behind its hard-landing accident history. Higher approach speeds mean a very narrow flare window, increasing the risk of a late or ineffective flare. Many MD-11 hard landings involved bounced touchdowns and porpoising. In this aircraft, excessive vertical loads could overstress the main landing gear and wing spar — in extreme cases leading to structural failure and rollover. By 2012, the MD-11 had the highest hard-landing rate among large Western-built airliners: 5.63 events per million flight cycles. Contributing factors cited by the NTSB: • High landing speed → tight flare timing • Cockpit far ahead of the main gear → reduced touchdown awareness • Automatic thrust reduction in the flare → delayed corrections during high sink rates • Long-haul cargo ops → fewer landings, reduced proficiency This old video is of an Alitalia MD-11 with a very rough landing into Kai Tak.

On This Day in 1987: a USAF C-130 crashes in Fort Bragg (North Carolina, US). 4 of 6 aboard and 1 on the ground die. During a demonstration of a low-altitude parachute drop, the pilot pulled up too late. The airplane skidded for 1000 ft on a dirt runway, hit a vehicle, and caught fire. The maneuver demonstrated by the aircraft [Registration “68-10945”] was the LAPES - Low-Altitude Parachute-Extraction System – where aircraft deliver supplies without landing in areas that can´t be supplied by high-altitude parachute drops. This maneuver is no longer used by the US military.

The Federal Civil Aviation Agency (AFAC) said in a statement that the Directorate of Navigation Services in Mexican Airspace (SENEAM) will be carrying out an investigation into the cause.
