During #Philadelphia's first-ever nationally-televised primetime home game, an inebriated Howard Cosell🍸was forced to miss the second half of the #Eagles-Giants game on Monday Night Football from frigid Franklin Field. He would vomit on Don Meredith's boots, then take a car service back to NYC. November 23, 1970

I’ll take a drunk Cosell over most of these clowns today. Cosell made even the most boring of games worth listening to.

@RexChapman tbf, it was cold and Don was probably as lit as Howard!

@RexChapman They all were lit...booze provided by Eagles owner Leonard Tose. True story.

The movie " Monday Night Mayhem" did a great job with that scene. I remember this as a kid. My Eagles cost the Giants a playoff berth. Giants got revenge 2 years later..62-10.

Two red-letter games (of many) in their storied rivalry, without a doubt.

Yes, the story I always heard was that Cosell's wife was watching the game from home and couldn't help but notice the slurring of his words. She immediately called the producer of the network/show and told them he can't return for the second half.

Cosell looks like Grandpa Munster here

As drunks go....Howard held it together pretty well.

"I'm gonna let everybody know that that thing you got on your head is a phony, and it comes from the tail of a pony!" - Muhammad Ali to Howard Cosell
