The council is on track to be £785 million in debt by 2028. It plans to raise another £28 million from residents through council tax over the next few years. Money is tight, apparently. Oof. This Times Radio interview with Green Party Mayor of Hackney Zoe Garbett is pure second-hand embarrassment. When pushed, she says trans women in Hackney should be able to use women's spaces. But she spends most of the interview trying not to actually say that. Presumably because she knows the legal and political difficulties with doing so. Instead, she deflects to domestic violence, claims the Supreme Court ruling doesn't protect women, and repeats that "trans women are women" and face high levels of sexual violence. None of which engage with the substance of the question - or the law.

She says she was inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to enter politics and make a difference. The court heard that in October 2025, Clarke-Samuel had been socialising in central London before driving recklessly through Camden, Islington, and Hackney. CCTV showed him driving on the wrong side of the road and narrowly missing a cyclist.
