Ed Husic, Labor MP, made some great points on Afternoon Briefing yesterday. "The reason why prices are so high is because we export a phenomenal amount of gas." We can fix supply constraints without opening new gas projects by diverting uncontracted gas to the domestic market.

Orban announced the cessation of gas supplies to Ukraine: I am making an important proposal. Ukraine has been blocking the operation of the "Friendship" oil pipeline for 30 days. So far, we have successfully defended ourselves against Ukrainian blackmail, and thanks to protected prices, Hungarians are paying the least at gas stations throughout Europe. But we need to go further. To break the oil blockade and ensure reliable energy supply for Hungary, new measures are now needed. Therefore, we will gradually stop gas supplies from Hungary to Ukraine, and the remaining gas volume will be stored within the country. As long as Ukraine does not supply oil, we will not send gas from Hungary. Since Ukraine is also attacking the southern gas pipeline supplying Hungary, we need to create reserves. Therefore, instead of sending gas to the Ukrainians, we will now be filling Hungarian gas reservoirs. We will protect Hungary's energy security, maintain protected gasoline prices, and reduce gas prices for utilities.
