John Landis was offended by an article he read about Jewish comics in blackface at the time of making "Coming to America" (1988) & he thought it was really ignorant. So, he called Eddie Murphy & told him that he has to play the role of an old Jew in the movie. At first, Murphy couldn't believe it, but was willing to give it a go. After putting on the make up of an old Jewish man designed by Rick Baker, Murphy walked around the Paramount offices flirting with secretaries and telling everyone, "Hi, I am Eddie Murphy". No one recognised or believed him. One old lady was really convinced that he was an old man & gave him her phone number. After that he was confident that he could play the role convincingly.
