Yesterday, I was so proud to see Liverpool at its very best as taxi drivers from across our city and beyond came together to give more than 250 children in care an unforgettable day out at Southport Pleasureland. Seeing the cabs, brilliantly dressed for the occasion, set off from my constituency was a reminder of the incredible generosity and spirit that defines our city. A huge thank you to Bernie Buxton, who founded this remarkable event 43 years ago, and to his army of volunteers who make it all possible. Year after year, they create memories that will stay with these children and their families for a lifetime. This is Liverpool. Looking after each other. ❤️💙 #WestDerby

My dearest brother, oseni rufai, came to visit. Rufai is, without a doubt, one of my favorite people on this planet and one of my best friends. Years ago, during some of my lowest moments, he stood with me in the trenches, speaking life and hope into me when I needed it most—without judgment. To this day, he CONSISTENTLY checks in and celebrates all of my wins. The very few times we’ve ever disagreed or felt a certain way, we’ve been honest with each other, and the issue would disappear, forgotten as quickly as it came. That honesty, mutual respect, and understanding have made our friendship effortless through the years. Just as I wrote in a birthday tribute to him over five years ago, some people used to jokingly refer to me as “Rufai’s mother”—not because of age 👀 but because of the dynamic of our friendship. Little did they know, Rufai has been more like a father to me! 😂😫 He is truly one of one. An eternal friend. ❤️ One day, I will tell the full story.

Hou Hsiao-Hsien on the autobiographical nature of "A Time to Live and a Time to Die" (1985): "In 'A Time to Live and a Time to Die' (1985), I wanted to get back to a one-to-one relationship between filmmaker and subject, much as I had in 'The Sandwich Man' (1983). 60-70% of the film is drawn directly from my own memories, the rest from conversations with other members of my family and from research. Of course, the narrative isn’t structured in terms of chronological autobiography. The strongest structuring elements are the three deaths; beyond those, it’s structured in terms of memories and impressions. Both the family in the film and my own memories are essentially vehicles for the discussion with people of my generation of some things that should be discussed: the political and social predicament of those people in Taiwan who originally came from the Mainland. It’s something that simply hasn’t been talked about, least of all in films. After I had shot the film, but before I edited it, three images came together in my mind that helped me to rationalise what I was doing. First, a guy from Hong Kong told me how he used to make annual trips with his family to visit his old grandfather in Guangdong province. One year the grandfather took them all out to a mountain overlooking the sea. He clutched a compass in his hand and said: ‘This is where I want to be buried’. I somehow made a mental connection between this faintly absurd scene and the man who carries a magnet everywhere to prospect for precious metal in 'One Hundred Years of Solitude', which I was reading at the time. And then I made the association of both images with my grandma and her road back to the Mainland. It struck me that all three images combined something fundamentally real with something surreal or absurd. I’d never thought of things in terms of the coexistence of the real and the surreal before. For me, this was a kind of conceptual breakthrough. I suppose that many people in Taiwan must have thought that bringing up the question of our isolation from the Mainland was a touchy thing to do. It obviously is a delicate issue. But the very existence of the film proves that it needn’t be touchy, which strikes me as useful. I guess the authorities let me do it because my other films have shown that I try to be sincere and that I don’t have ulterior political motives." I was paralyzed from the chest down almost six years ago and leaving the hospital was actually extremely hard for me. I grew a close bond with everyone who took care of me. Nurses, respiratory therapists, even janitors. I was hospitalized for a total of two months and the transition back home to live a regular (or as close to it as I could get) life was extremely difficult. Six years later, I still look back on my time in the hospital and feel overwhelming gratitude for the people who treated me like family. I can only hope and pray that they stumble across my content one day and see how far I’ve come. Their kindness and warmth is something I will carry with me forever. I’ll never forget these people❤️

This is a new reality the women and children of this country now have to deal with. Subject to harassment from men from the other side of the world. Many who come from cultures who have little or no respect for women. The Street Guardians will be patrolling the streets in town later, dealing with more of this. Preventing overly intoxicated women from being prayed upon.

After a lifetime dedicated to racing, 2026 will mark my final season as a professional racing driver. Not the end of the journey, but the beginning of a new chapter. Motorsport has been my life for as long as I can remember. It gave me discipline and grit before I knew why I needed them, and purpose in moments when the road ahead was far from clear. From the suburbs of São Paulo to Monaco, racing shaped my life in ways I could never have imagined. It changed me profoundly as a driver, as a person, as a father, and as a human being. I gave everything I had to this sport, and in return, it gave me a life beyond anything I could have dreamed of. I am deeply grateful to my family, who supported me from day zero. Every sacrifice, every difficult decision, every moment away from home since I was 17 years old, every victory, and every defeat was carried together with them. Without their love, patience, and belief, none of this would have been possible. I have a wonderful wife and children who helped me make this decision. A very special thank you to Formula E, where I have spent the last fourteen years surrounded by extraordinary people—people who started writing on napkins and created an amazing championship, and whom I now consider family. Formula E is my home, and my home is Formula E. This decision comes with emotion, but also with peace. Every great race has a final lap, and I want mine to be driven with the same intensity, commitment, and love that brought me here. I will give everything in my final races in 2026.
